I'm replaying the game and am a bit frustrated with my party. My goal was to support Solas as a Rift mage by continually inflicting weaken with my two warriors and crippling blows. Crippling blows is in the battlemaster tree and is supposed to trigger weaken on critical hits. I made my rogue an artificer for the passive that increases critical chance for the entire party. When the damage numbers above an enemy flash, that is a critical hit right? I am not getting combat text above the enemy saying they are weakened. Iron Bull has the ability that sunders armor on critical hits, and that is working, but I am not seeing weaken. At first I thought maybe it wouldn't work with the sunder ability from the two-handed tree, but have found that is not the case; I couldn't get crippling blows to trigger with my sword and shield user, Cassandra, either. The only way I am able to get the warriors to trigger weaken is to use Cassandra's "maker's will" ability, which also allows my rogue to inflict weaken, but it is a measly 5% chance. When I look up crippling blows, other people are asking if the effect stacks, but I can't get the effect to show up at all. I check in tactical view after a warrior scores critical hit but see nothing. Am I missing something?

If you've upgraded Veil Strike and Stonefist, you don't need any support. You can generate enough Weaken status yourself, or as Solas.

There's a bug whereby if you apply weaken eg via crippling blows, to a character who is already weakened eg by stonefist/PotA/Veilstrike, the weakened status drops off. Rift mages still gt their mana regen, but I'm not sure about the other passives.
Thanks, good to know; I must've hit them with Solas and didn't realize. So you are saying that only the rift mage can stack weaken effects but other classes that inflict weaken cancel the effect?

I see your point, but I wasn't trying to merely keep the weaken effect up, but experiment with how much I could reduce enemy damage by stacking the effect in nightmare.

I was under the impression that Weakened was cancelled if you used another ability that causes it before the effect of the original wears off, i.e. it doesn't stack. Did this change?

IIRC it doesn't matter who caused the initial weaken, so no one can stack it unfortunately. I haven't tested this post patch 6, however, but from your experience it sounds like an ongoing issue.

Weaken aside, I tested the untouchable defense passive today and it seems to work. If I have around 150 max guard guard without it, I am able to obtain 190+ max guard with the passive.
