Squadmate idea: Biotic singer

Some time ago I was listening to Marina and Diamonds and to some of Helene Boeksle's songs(1,2) while reading ME forums and I thought back to older anime shows i was watching as a kid(Macross, Rahxephon and some names of which i forgot) and it dawned on me that i really like the concept of a (female) character singing songs that wield some sort of hidden powers and possibly awake some mindbogglingly powerful force/machinery in the process. And in general, voice as experession of usually unexpected and invisible inner powers always seemed pretty cool to me(and judging by all the powerful deep-voiced characters in many games not to me only  ).

Therefore I'd like to suggest introduction of a female squadmate that uses her biotic abilities to amplify, modify and direct her voice as a powerful weapon. Just imagine for a moment the audio-visual potentional of such a character!

Story implementation:

You discover a main plot relevant artifact of long-disappeared ancient civilization and learn that to active it some sort of a ritual needs to be performed. The ancients have purposedly created the artifact to share some of their deeper knowledge and a tiny portion of their power, but to access it you need to prove to be "worthy" by demonstrating that you understand the spiritual guidelines, the "way of life" of the ancients - and possible the reason for the existence of the artifact in the first place - and the consequences the power you seek might entail. The performance requires speaking in the ancient song-like language and some special biotic-powered interaction with a control mechanism of the artifact(some ancient AI for example).

You learn of a singer, who is very talented in learning known galactic languages and performs songs using some sort of biotic abilities to amplify and direct her voice, resulting in some really crazy and wildly popular multi-voice performances. You recruit her and let her perform the ritual after collecting all the necessary archeological and historical data on this ancient civilization. Listen to this while letting the concept sink in:

https://soundcloud.c...trinity-trailer

The ritual could for example result in a radical change in morphology and psychology and amplify the biotic powers of the performer. Suddenly, certain words spoken/sang in that ancient language would create explosive blastwaves, while other would confuse and numb people they are whispered to. A touch while singing a tune would cause strong vibrations able to shatter massive objects to pieces etc.

The visual/mental change might be pretty interesting in case the singer would be an LI option.

EDIT:

A bard playing songs and swinging some sort of a "proper" musical instrument in a battle is definitely NOT what i am suggesting.

I am suggesting a character that simply can wreck some things just with her voice, big time.

Ask yourself: what does death sound like? Life? Despair, hope? What could be a sound able to break a rock? Now imagine a character finding the corresponding tune, basically shouting/whispering/singing words "Die! Break! Live! Despair" in a strange, powerful language augmented by biotics or touching objects and creating a fatal resonance, shattering them to pieces, and in such way causing massive havoc on the battlefield.

Similar could also work to bring squad members back to their senses after disruptive attacks, stabilizing squad members in critical conditions or disrupting enemy biotics.

Human bodies oscillate in a specific frequency, btw, so it would be pretty interesting to give every squad character their own tune(or name in the alternative ancient language) they would be adressed in by the singer during combat situations.

Also please read the second half of post #34 for further explanations for the reasons to the story suggestions.

EDIT2: this might clarify my intent a little bit more:

Yeah, singing is out. But Sonic weapons are a real thing. Bust eardrums, make people vomit and crap their pants... sounds useful  B)

Also, this was sci-fi

Umm, I'll be blunt, no. But I'm primarily a Tech guy so I should count as 25% of a vote since about how often I use the Sentinel and by extension Biotics. I don't even use the Biotic squadmates.

We already have several threads about what we want in the new squadmates. Let's not clog up this forum with even more redundant threads.

I know what Macross your talking about heinoMK2 and it was definitely not my favorite :P So thats a no for me

But if you were talking about the badass 1/2 human from the better Macross who flew his ship using only the power of his mind then I'd be all for it :D

Maybe for a spin off or DLC otherwise you'd be bombarded with:

Mass Effect: Bards In #Space.

Space Bards,

Angry Bards.

Dragon Age: 2184

Banshee's Gate.

Spacerim.

etc.....

Why not?

I'd like a squadmate whose special talents are not so combat-centric, and instead something totally random --- like "biotic singing"

I play as vanguard, infiltrator, or soldier.  All of my playthroughs has been that way.

Biotic singer?  No.  I'll just play an adept.

When the US Army Band Corps. gets deployed to fight terrorists in Iraq with the power of song, I'll start to take this idea seriously.

Keep the silly Bard archetype in high fantasy where it belongs.

No, we already have to deal with Zither in DA, I'd rather not have a companion with Skyrim-esque biotic powers.

Yes, this was an integral part of the inspiration to my suggestion.

It is understandable that soundwaves as a weapon might appear somewhat ridiculous but let's just take a look at what is actually very real today:

- humming sounds akin to a mosquito or any other insect just near your ear are terrificly irritating, even frightening at times
- mantis shrimps are actually killing fishes with shockwaves in the water
- some singers can shatter glass with their voices
- resonance effects are able to destroy massive bridges and buildings
- objects reaching hypersonic speeds create explosive blasts with high damaging potential to objects in the area
etc

Therefore, in my opinion, sound as a weapon with a little help of "space magic" aka biotics is not too farfetched and could be pretty impressive with some artistic ingenuity and good character design.
The idea behind my suggestion was also to provide a bit more diversity or another angle to the field of biotic powers in ME. After Me2 and 3 flinging blue balls of space magic yet again doesn't seem too exciting anymore. A single word shattering massive objects - with a proper sound artwork - on the other hand might be pretty impressive and offer a great opportunity for an interesting squadmate.

Also please think a bit about evolution of biotics in the ME series so far. They went from mostly supportive powers to full blown space magic where biotic users can fly at will, explode everything non stop and stop bullets with no huge issues. Next thing you know they'll start wearing red underpants above their armour and long flowing capes while shooting biotic beams from their eyes  Shattering things with your voice is far more sci-fi than that in my opinion.

No.

1) Don't take ideas from other games (DA:I) and implement them in ME.

2) Except for a fun-cameo DLC like Citadel, it'd be ridiculous and childish.
