Some time ago I was listening to Marina and Diamonds and to some of Helene Boeksle's songs(1,2) while reading ME forums and I thought back to older anime shows i was watching as a kid(Macross, Rahxephon and some names of which i forgot) and it dawned on me that i really like the concept of a (female) character singing songs that wield some sort of hidden powers and possibly awake some mindbogglingly powerful force/machinery in the process. And in general, voice as experession of usually unexpected and invisible inner powers always seemed pretty cool to me(and judging by all the powerful deep-voiced characters in many games not to me only
).
Therefore I'd like to suggest introduction of a female squadmate that uses her biotic abilities to amplify, modify and direct her voice as a powerful weapon. Just imagine for a moment the audio-visual potentional of such a character!
Story implementation:
You discover a main plot relevant artifact of long-disappeared ancient civilization and learn that to active it some sort of a ritual needs to be performed. The ancients have purposedly created the artifact to share some of their deeper knowledge and a tiny portion of their power, but to access it you need to prove to be "worthy" by demonstrating that you understand the spiritual guidelines, the "way of life" of the ancients - and possible the reason for the existence of the artifact in the first place - and the consequences the power you seek might entail. The performance requires speaking in the ancient song-like language and some special biotic-powered interaction with a control mechanism of the artifact(some ancient AI for example).
You learn of a singer, who is very talented in learning known galactic languages and performs songs using some sort of biotic abilities to amplify and direct her voice, resulting in some really crazy and wildly popular multi-voice performances. You recruit her and let her perform the ritual after collecting all the necessary archeological and historical data on this ancient civilization. Listen to this while letting the concept sink in:

The ritual could for example result in a radical change in morphology and psychology and amplify the biotic powers of the performer. Suddenly, certain words spoken/sang in that ancient language would create explosive blastwaves, while other would confuse and numb people they are whispered to. A touch while singing a tune would cause strong vibrations able to shatter massive objects to pieces etc.
The visual/mental change might be pretty interesting in case the singer would be an LI option.
EDIT:
A bard playing songs and swinging some sort of a "proper" musical instrument in a battle is definitely NOT what i am suggesting.
I am suggesting a character that simply can wreck some things just with her voice, big time.
Ask yourself: what does death sound like? Life? Despair, hope? What could be a sound able to break a rock? Now imagine a character finding the corresponding tune, basically shouting/whispering/singing words "Die! Break! Live! Despair" in a strange, powerful language augmented by biotics or touching objects and creating a fatal resonance, shattering them to pieces, and in such way causing massive havoc on the battlefield.
Similar could also work to bring squad members back to their senses after disruptive attacks, stabilizing squad members in critical conditions or disrupting enemy biotics.
Human bodies oscillate in a specific frequency, btw, so it would be pretty interesting to give every squad character their own tune(or name in the alternative ancient language) they would be adressed in by the singer during combat situations.
Also please read the second half of post #34 for further explanations for the reasons to the story suggestions.
EDIT2: this might clarify my intent a little bit more:
Yeah, singing is out. But Sonic weapons are a real thing. Bust eardrums, make people vomit and crap their pants... sounds useful
Also, this was sci-fi
