Should our new ship be like the Normandy?

I just hope it has a different layout. Looking back, I realize I never particularly liked the way the Normandy was set up. And I'd like a change of pace regardless.
I agree. I really got tired of that long, long walk through decontamination...

Hmm, not too fussed actually if its like the Normandy or not just so long as theres alot of interactivity. In ME1 and 2 your crew were glued to parts of the ship and never seemed to move (Although i remember Chakwas moving once or twice in ME1). In ME3 the crew moved about more and there was alot more interactive elements and funny moments although i hope BioWare take it a slight step further, Maybe one of your crew decides to take a walk around the ship or perhaps decides to take some leave to resolve something and is thus unavailable for a short while. Things like that, still realistic and in my opinion add to the overall atmosphere.

I hope the spaceship is something like the Normandy. It was not to big and not to small. The design inside was ok but it can be better ofcource.
I like the name Normandy. (so much history)
I hope the next one have also a history reference. (Market garden or something like that)
xo from Arnhem (Netherlands)

I like the freedom of post-Suicide Mission ME2 where you could just zip around the stars with no strings attached, and I think this feeling is best captured in a smaller ship.

Yeah, its the crew interactivity that's important. I'm hoping they go around and help keep the ship operational, so I don't feel bad about not bringing them on missions. Maybe even have cinematic conversations completely without the PC's involvement (like buildup for Jack/Miranda and Tali/Legion tension).

Smaller ship, no decon/elevators/load screens, enough beds for the entire crew.
Also unlimited fuel and probes.

Reading through some of these comments, I get where people are coming from when they say they want a new ship design for a new trilogy. But I think it would be kind of nice if we had a ship that bore some resemblance to the Normandy. This is the future afterall, and the Normandy was a prototype ship, "the first of its kind".
think it would make sense if humans or the Alliance based some of their ships on the design, and just changed and refined it over time so that it's not the same but you can still see the resemblance, like seeing a child's face as their own, but seeing their mother and father in it at the same time.
I wouldn't mind either way, so long as our ship had character and was easy to feel attached to.

I'm hoping for something more self-contained like a small ferry:

But then obviously the space-ship version. Not half as big as a cruise ship, but still something to house a lot of people, some room for small stores, mess-halls etc. In short, a flying village.
Maybe with a couple of general-purpose runabouts or shuttles on it, which could be overhauled along the way into some more specialized role to support away-missions.

Wouldnt the SR2 be considered the perfected version of the Normandy? Especially after the upgrades in ME2. Giving us a futuristic Normandy, even if it was changed, would still reflect too much on the past trilogy.

You make a point, I hadn't thought of that. You still never get to see another ship like it, it's always the only one.

What if the Tempest was a "Normandy Class stealth frigate"?

I would like a small and compact ship. Maybe as large as the SR1 in ME1 but nothing too large. I want to spend most of my time on planets and not inside the ship. I don't want a freaking destroyer. A small and agile ship for exploration is what we need IMO.
I also agree with the people stating that its design should be different from the Normandy. I would prefer a minimalistic and clean interior with lighter rooms (the Normandy in ME1 and 3 was too dark). The ideal size for me is the Ebon Hawke or the ships we get in SWTOR.

Well, Normandy and all of its variants were built as a primarily military stealth vessel in mind. With the exploration and "path finding" as a new theme, i'd like to see a vessel reflecting exactly that, one that looks a bit more scientifically oriented. Maybe a bit bulkier, with stronger emphasized engines, a vessel that can forcibly dock with different kind of objects and maybe feature grappling arms to manipulate and take in objects in space. It should definitely be big enough to host a sufficient number of scientific personal and their facilities while also keep enough room for military personal and their equipment(that small single room for all the marines on the Normandy was quite inhuman, imo).
Imo, Prometheus is an example of a great looking ship that looks just right for a spacefaring exploration vessel.

I wouldn't mind something a bit more... modest? Smaller would definitely be nice if only for the convenience of it. XD Something more rough and tumble, I guess, than the Normandy ever was.

If that was the ship for inter galaxy journeys then it must be a pretty huge , such a missions and journeys usually last for a long time (for years) and crew members do not know will they find some resources somewhere or not , so they must have on the ship everything what is necessary for the life and normal functioning for several dozens or several hundreds of people for a years.
That means they must have alot of space (how they would not start to feel closed, isolated and claustrophobic after somewhile, that could have a very bad mental consequences ), they must have enough private space , space for fun and recreation , space for work , for sleeping...............also they must have some gardens where they would breed the food for a certain number of people................etc and all that requires alot of space.

I'd kinda like a smaller ship. The Normandy was a damn fine ship but all those loading screens just to talk to your squadmates... It was a little ridiculous.

I want a new style dreadnought size ship with a complete fast transit system for point to point movement in the ship. It would use a docked landing ship to pick up and drop off the mako.

I think we need to have something that has a degree of familiarity to it. Something that makes us feel at home considering we're going to have a whole new cast of characters and, if the leak is true, an unfamiliar part of space to get used to.
So what I would like to see is:
- The Galaxy Map with that old, familiar music looping
- Living quarters that you can customize
- Areas where you can find and chat up members of your crew
- A place where you can buy and sell items
- Shooting range (like the Spectre area in the Citadel from ME3) or a virtual combat arena (see 6)
- A social area where you can interact with your crew, kinda like a bar/arcade/game room. This would take the place of those types of joints from the previous Mass Effect games. Again, if the leak is true, then it's unlikely there will be a Purgatory, Afterlife, Silversun Strip, etc.

I hope we can level our ship up, and customize it more so than the Normandy. I still love the Normandy though!

I kinda hoped we could play like a space pirate type thing

That mostly depends on story. If Ark theory is true then there could be either Ark ship itself or small scout ship with minimal crew and enough space to get Mako and possible artifacts on board, since it's not designed for stealth infiltation and combat. If it's not then Normandy type ship is quite likely.

From the sounds of the story line it should have a Saucer section with a tubular secondary hull and cylindrical nacelles. After all, it'll be bodly going where no man has gone before, right?
