That mostly depends on story. If Ark theory is true then there could be either Ark ship itself or small scout ship with minimal crew and enough space to get Mako and possible artifacts on board, since it's not designed for stealth infiltation and combat. If it's not then Normandy type ship is quite like
my guess is there will be one massive ship (that will act like the citidel as a focal point of the game. think rpg town) your ship that will be normandy size or smaller and a smaller transport/fighter that will load the mako
also can we name the ark ship "The Shepard" would make sense as both a kick back to the old series and the carrying of people to the new galaxy
Exploration is the main theme of this new game. It is being heavily touted.
The Normandy was built for scouting and stealth recon. That served the story. So if the story is about exploration and colonization of new worlds, then a Normandy style ship (frigate) would not be appropriate. You need something that would be appropriate for the task.
So, I imagine we'll get our own Mass Effect version of Star Trek's Enterprise or have to interface with it. Why? Well, let's take a look at what that ship was designed for:
"These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before".
That's kinda what we'll be doing in the next game. If the leak is true, we're not in Kansas (i.e. the Milky Way, the Citadel, Omega, familiar or friendly space ports, etc), so you need a bigger ship to carry more resources and to have enough fuel to sustain long voyages away from friendly refueling ports (remember having to buy fuel in ME 2...? LOL).
This logic falls in line with commercial air travel. You don't take a Cessna from NYC to Shanghai. You need a bigger jet.
I am kind of split if I want another small ship which made sense for Shepard's story or if I want a big dreadnaught which could serve as a mobile hub and would be fun to explore.
I kind of want a big vessel. Like Destiny Ascension size. Small and intimate ain't my style. Big, flashy, and powerful... Now there's something you can set your watch to.

I guess the big ship will be our new (now mobile) hub world like the Citadel used to be and our own ship is again a small stealthy ship caue that's the perfect reason for only going on missions with 2 squadmates.
For the most part, yes. It wasn't so big that you'd wander around lost or find it a chore to go and talk to squadmates periodically, but not so small that you felt like everyone on the ship was privy to each and every conversation. I definitely wouldn't mind the next gen version of the Normandy, perhaps more geared toward pathfinder operations, but you'll still need stealth and speed and armaments. I doubt most of the aliens we meet will just throw peaceful salutations our way.
A ship that works like a home with a mass effect core and wings, preferably with some wear and tear - also make it upgradable/customizable. Also a continuous ship. Elevators can burn.
The bigger the ship the less likely also that you'll get satisfying hub planets to visit. Having a dreadnought class ship would make your ship take the place of something like the Citadel.
Besides a small scout ship making much more sense, I'd rather keep the ship small to make room for some actual hub worlds. Also a small ship makes companions much easier to track down to talk to. A dreadnought would be like scattering your squadmates across the whole of the ME1 Citadel. No thanks!
That's Daileon. It's from a really obscure series called "Juspion" (Jaspion here). Not very popular in Japan but became a cult here in Brazil because of the giant robot:Instead of hiring a pupetteer to wear the robot suit, they hired an actual fighter and blew almost all their budget in making a nearly perfect suit that could whitstand things like flying kicks and judo rolls. Because of that they had almost no money for effects, so instead of using fancy lights and sci-fi weaponry, Daileon would just beat the crap out of the monsters using little more than punches, kicks and wrestling moves
Must be cheesy as hell today but for us 80's kids was the coolest thing ever
Well, Normandy and all of its variants were built as a primarily military stealth vessel in mind. With the exploration and "path finding" as a new theme, i'd like to see a vessel reflecting exactly that, one that looks a bit more scientifically oriented. Maybe a bit bulkier, with stronger emphasized engines, a vessel that can forcibly dock with different kind of objects and maybe feature grappling arms to manipulate and take in objects in space. It should definitely be big enough to host a sufficient number of scientific personal and their facilities while also keep enough room for military personal and their equipment(that small single room for all the marines on the Normandy was quite inhuman, imo).
Imo, Prometheus is an example of a great looking ship that looks just right for a spacefaring exploration vessel.
Let me put it this way. So what you seem to be describing up there has (i) powerful engines (good for getaways from dangerous things such as explosions of other vessels or other vessels), (ii) capability of forcibly docking with other vessels (for SCIENCE! of...how to best forcibly dock with other vessels), with (iii) grappling arms to manipulate and taken in other objects in space (such as other vessels), and (iv) a big enough space to hold the necessary gear (including cargo hold, to store all the, err...scientific samples and equipment you pick up during your run-ins with other vessles) to host personnel (including military, because you have to protect the SCIENCE! from hostile, uhm, environments).
I am so sorry, I do not mean to offend in any way, shape or form. But I read the above and a science vessel is the last thing I think. What DOES pop into my head, however, is this:
Personally, I loved the SR-1. I thought the design was unique and distinctive. The SR-2 less so. They did away with the variable configuration engine pods in favor of fixed geometry wings, tossed out the ability to land, and the engine went from looking insanely cool to looking like an oversized Van De Graaff generator. Seriously, give me something that resembles the SR-1 any day.
I do want something distinct from the Normandy though. I just hope it takes design queues from ME1 and not 2/3.
What was the purpose of the variable configuration of the nacelles anyway? There's no reason why such a thing should affect the performance of a spaceship.
To be a carbon copy of it because people are too afraid to experience a Mass Effect game that doesn't remind them of the previous 3 at every turn? HELL NO!

I am a bit worried about this as well, that they will just give us Normandy v 3.0. On the other hand, what brings small comfort is the fact that they have been very consistent in their "EW NO SHEPARD HAS COOTIES STAY AWAY FROM ALL THAT EEEEK!" approach so far. I expect that the immediately identifiable visuals would be included in that package. But nothing is for certain unless an official announcement is made, so, you know. We will see. Hopefully in about 10 days.
10 DAYS.
10. DAYS.
E3 WHY U TORMENT ME SO MUCH BE HERE ALREADY FFFFFFFF
Edit: P.S. A surprisingly good spaceship design is featured in Saints Row IV, of all places. Also, it has all mah jams
Should our new ship be like the Normandy? NO. I want a battle-tested ship, experienced, and not too old but not new either. Something that isn't the "most advanced frigate in Alliance fleet." I don't want to be a HERO right off the bat with the baddest ship in the galaxy.
Give me a something like the millennium falcon (just not to rustic and broken down). It's not pretty, it may not be the best, but it gets the job done.
