I tend to sacrifice stats for aesthetics. I just wish I could find a schematic that retains the looks of the Staff of the Void. Does one even exist?

I wasn't willing to take that path either (or wouldn't have, had the option even been available...

since I didn't even recruit Iron Bull on that playthrough.)  I used the Cheat Engine to get the schematic into my game, and with a clear conscience at that, as linking the availability of an Andrastian-themed staff to an alliance with the Qunari makes no sense at all, IMO.

 

I have a long history of umbrage over Bioware's penchant for withholding the best equipment from players who won't follow  the squickier path... Don't want to make Owen the blacksmith kill himself? No Far Song for you! Won't abandon Bull's Chargers? No Andraste!staff schematic for you!

I agree. It's always questionable to lock items from players based on story decisions. Even if so, schematics like that should always still be available via random drop or at vendors. I have 120000+ gold with nothing to spend it on.

You don't need to do the Ben hassrath war table missions for the schematic, you could try farming tier 3 loot chests; I've picked it up that way.
