Caves and Rain
“You just had to leave the camp in search of blood lotus, didn’t you?” Krem teased as he stood by the mouth of the cave and watched the rain coming down outside in the form of a wall of water. Having been caught away from camp when the tumultuous storm hit, Krem and Vyolet had sought shelter in a cave by the river. Too small to provide a happy home for giant spiders, and not being used as a den by any bears, it was the perfect shelter for the pair.
“No one said you had to come with me, and with the way Sera goes through those blighted jars of bees?” Vyolet asked wryly while squeezing the water from her dark hair. “Of course I had to get more. Honestly...Corypheus is dead, what is that crazy elf using all those blighted jars on?"
“Maybe she sends them to her Red Jenny friends,” Krem mused with a small shrug. “And Of course I had to go with you. You’re my woman and I’m your man. It’s my duty to keep you safe...even though you’re more than capable of doing it on your own, it’s still something I take very seriously. I love you, Vyolet...and if...if anything happened to you when I could’ve stopped it, I would never forgive myself.” He remembered only too well how it had felt to lose Vyolet--even if only for a short while.
Vyolet could not help but smile. “I love you too, Krem...my Cremisius Aclassi...my perfect man,” she murmured. “You know that I’ll always welcome your company. I just wish you hadn’t gotten soaked because of it,” she added before sighing heavily. “There’s just never quite enough blood lotus around, is there?” she asked as her mind was pulled back to the reason why she and Krem were standing soaked in a cave. “Oh, you can’t kick over a rock without stepping on some spindleweed, but blood lotus? Well, it’s just too much to ask for plentiful amounts of that, isn’t it? Common herb, my ass. Stupid blood lotus...”
Chuckling as he leaned against the cave wall, Krem crossed his arms and ankles while watching his beloved with a fond smile. “Well, whatever you reasoning, there’s no way we’re getting back to camp until this lets up. Maybe next time, let Sera get the blood lotus.”
“We’ll just see how that goes,” Vyolet remarked with a small chuckle. Feeling her love’s gaze upon her, Vyolet raised her eyes to his. “What?”
“Just admiring the beautiful view,” Krem replied with his smile still in place.
Vyolet snorted softly even as her heart fluttered happily and a small smile played over her lips. “Beautiful, he says...I look like a drowned rat.”
“But you’re my drowned rat, amata,” Krem quipped with a small chuckled as he uncrossed himself and closed the small distance between Vyolet and himself. “And to me, that makes you the most beautiful woman in all of Thedas.” He gently pulled his beloved elf close and rested his chin atop hers--not caring about the dampness of her hair.
“Think the storm will pass soon?” Vyolet asked while sliding her arms around Krem’s waist and nestling into him as much as his armor would allow.
“Not even a little,” Krem replied with a small shake of his head. “Not with the way it’s coming down. I’d say we’re stuck in here at least for the next hour.” He furrowed his brow as he gazed out at the storm. “Maybe two. Good thing were far enough away from the river, or else the cave would flood.”
Vyolet sighed and slowly pulled out of Krem’s embrace before stepping deeper into the small cave. “Well, then...can’t very well have us freezing while we wait, now can we?” she asked while gathering small stones and forming them into a circle. Once finished, she conjured up a ball of flame and placed it within the circle to keep it from spreading. "So long as I stay awake, it won't go out," Vyolet said with a smile as she began taking off her cloak and boots and placing them beside the fire so they could dry.
Smiling, Krem crossed over from the mouth of the cave and removed his armor before sitting beside Vyolet to remove his boots. Once he had finished, he was only too happy to wrap an arm around his love’s shoulders and hold her close when she nestled into him.
“Too bad we don’t have any hot cider,” Vyolet mused with a small giggle before sighing contentedly as Krem rested his head atop hers.
Krem chuckled. “All things considered though, I could think of worse ways to spend a few hours with you. Snuggling by a fire and listening to the rain pouring down outside...it’s romantic if I do say so myself.”
“It is indeed,” Vyolet answered with a smile as she shifted her head just enough to lightly kiss Krem’s neck. “Then again, anything is romantic so long as I’m with you, amatus,” she murmured.
Small shivers of delight rushing through him, Krem sighed happily before leaning down and kissing Vyolet’s lips tenderly. “I was going to say the same about you, amata,” he whispered against his lover’s lips. “Anima mea…” he whispered before kissing Vyolet again and raising a hand to gently cup her cheek. “I love you so, and I thank the Maker every day that you bumped into me that day in Haven..”
Vyolet’s heart fluttered and she smiled against Krem’s lips. “As do I. It was one of the best days of my life,” she whispered.
“What were the others?” Krem asked with genuine curiosity before the smallest of moans escaped him as Vyolet kissed him.
Vyolet smiled and moved her hands up to tenderly cup Krem’s face as she gazed into his eyes. “Every single day I’ve spent with you since then.”
