Since it seems like there will never be a Mac version I'm stuck on my old Xbox 360. However, it seems like the Xbox 360 gets some of the worst bugs and the least amount of attention? Honestly it's extremely frustrating and I still haven't finished the game because I keep abandoning it for months on end when I can't take it anymore.

Notable bugs still present:

- Using tacticle camera crashes the game (try fighting a high dragon without it, I dare you)

- 3/4 of the time graphics, especially those in cutscenes, just won't render, leaving people with melted looking faces and metal helmet hair (darker hair is the worst)

- Silent party members even 80 hours into the game and prompted conversation often leaves the dialogue distorted like the characters are speaking in tongues

- Ladders spawning without a climb feature until you travel away and back (travel, not fast travel, because fast travel is bugged and also occasionally crashes the game) Also, similarly, sometimes trying to hit the 'A' button for other things - like talking to people - is simply not acknowledged

- Important loot items almost never spawn, most notably all Amulets of Power for the Inquisitor are missing (people seem to have the most trouble with the one in the fade)

- Custom Hawke imports don't get the right custom dialogue to go with them

And these are just the ones off the top of my head! Please Bioware, I really want to enjoy this game and fall in love with these characters the way I did with DA II and your others games, but I just can't with this stuff getting in the way. It completely ruins suspension of disbelief and throws me out of the gameplay every time it happens.

Go to the old gen master thread, and see how much they are 'doing something'.

The short answer is: Most likely no. There's 108 pages of people going through the game and telling them about bugs, there's been six patches and these are the only old gen specific fixes:

  • [PS3] Increased number of save slots to 30
  • [360] Fixed case where movies sometimes decoded incorrectly
  • [360] Fixed Crash when selecting storage device when select storage device warning is present
  • [360] Fixed the online connection error being displayed twice when attempting to login to Origin with no Xbox live connection.

The others are general fixes that were supposed to work on all platforms, and seem to just make it worse on the old consoles.

Bioware sold you a game that was forcefully rammed onto previous generation consoles. And as a result, it really does not run well, as you know first hand. Because it was never designed for your console.

Bioware does not care about the quality of the product they sell you, as long as their sales figures meet their target.

Learn from this and don't ever buy another Bioware game until you have real evidence of the quality of the game.

And also run the other way as fast as you can whenever you see a game that is being sold on last-gen and current-gen consoles simultaneously. Because that means that a lot of compromises have been made in the game's design and it will be a bad product for all.

I guess the biggest problem is that I knew I'd be compromising, just not how much. I was willing to sacrifice graphics to be able to keep playing my favorite game series, because sacrificing about $400 for a new console on top of $60 for the game was just never a possibility. I wish it was; I want a new console but that's just not feasible for me. Not that that would be a problem if they would just stop making excuses for why they don't want to design for Mac users.

I never thought I'd be giving up the game's entire playability.

I also had such a high opinion of the writers treatment of fans that I didn't see how that didn't extend to the programmers - who simply ignore a lot of the fans needs. It honestly feels like a personal f*** you to a good portion of the fan base at this point.

'You're not on the latest console so you don't matter enough to try and keep as a fan in the future or even acknowledge now'

Using tactical camera crashes the game (try fighting a high dragon without it, I dare you)......... I killed all the dragons without using it. lol

You're right, I should have remembered that this fandom is full of badasses.

It's really disheartening how small those fixes are. Nothing big has been fixed in half year for old gens and I doubt Bioware even will, they simply don't want anything to do with old gen versions of their own game.

Eh, I didn't think fighting them without tac cam was that big a deal here, because you're much more mobile here, especially if you're an archer or mage. Once you learn the pattern, dodging a lot of the attacks is not too difficult. If anything, Origins is the real pain to fight without tac cam, because you're so much slower, and the dragons have certain abilities that make it harder on you like those homing fireballs, and since I play on PS3, I had no choice.

But that sucks about the tac cam freezing though. I'd go nuts.

Mainly it was keeping the rest of my party alive that was the problem. When I wasn't manually controlling each and everyone one of their movements during the Fereldan Frostback escapade they all decided that standing on open flame was a fun idea. Next thing I know I look over and my party is literally on fire and the dragon didn't even have anything to do with it. (well, besides setting parts of the ground on fire in the first place)

So I just restarted the game with a mage so I could play as a knight enchanter. Dragons weren't actually too much of a problem after that. I learned to give up on being a team player and just did all the hard work myself, then waited for my team to wake up after.

Always wished I could point out to Bull that, no, I killed the dragon; you charged head first into it's mouth.

Sadly, they don't seem to be interested in fixing Old Gen consoles. Hell, they don't seem to be very interested in responding to calls for fixes for the New Gen consoles, so, seeing this from both ends, I can vouchsafe that the outlook is rather dismal. [have I been playing too much with Dorian, perchance?]

In any case, here's my short cautionary tale as well, I preordered the thing for the xbox360, and it was pants. I mean, pants. No serious bugs, but one can't really play with faces like triangles and textures as blurs. I waited five months in case they fixed anything, or replied to any of our posts, or promised to have some sort of fixes in the future, but all I got about my specific issue was a hint by a dev that the game was never meant to fit the Old Gens and it was memory-wise a very tight fit, so they were forced to strip it down to bare to make it work - of sorts. Work well enough to get our money and pretend we're to blame for the lack of quality, anyhow.

And then about half a month ago, I bought an XboxOne. And the game for the XboxOne. Which is visually stunning, but there are numerous bugs, freezes and glitches. My particular ones at the moment, are that everything sort of hangs almost indefinitely when close to sea-water. I should name my Xbox Dorian, cause apparently, it also gets sea-sick at first sight. I can barely progress the game in Storm Coast and Frostback Basin, but the Flooded Cave in Crestwood crashes the game entirely, so there go those two quests and the fereldan throne.

So, overall, from my experience, the game is pitifully bugged, and Bioware should be ashamed of themselves. Releasing brand new MP DLCs and content and neglecting very many bug fixes. Espcially the conversation bug, it has been around since inception, as far as I know.

So, in a nutshell, no. There won't be any Old Gen fixes, most probably.

That's awful, I'm so sorry.

Unplayable quests is a huge problem on the 360 (For instance Champion of the Just will never work for me - I can't hold the hall because the doors back into the hall think they're supposed to lead the the quarters instead, except, hey I'm already in the quarters. It's like the worst trick door ever. At least in Wicked Hearts the vestibule door will let me out if I click thought it a few times, but not so here. So can't hold the hall, everyone dies, game over - all because one bugged door a main quest becomes unplayable. But they won't fix it.) The fact that this sort of problem carries forward through console generations is just depressing.

I know Bioware prefers to design for PC, but if you're going to release on more than one platform you can't play favorites like that. It's not fair to anyone.

I think people with issues for PC controls would disagree with this.

But yeah. To be honest they should be going through all the bugs on all consoles, and prioritizing them based on how game wrecking they are. Anything that flat out breaks the game should be fixed by now, or at least attempts at fixing it should have been made. its been what? 5 or 6 months? regardless DLC is starting to come out. If they have time to make DLC they should have had time to fix the bugs that completely ruin the game. If they have been trying but cant find a fix for them, they need to actually communicate to their community "hey guys, we're sorry we've been trying to fix X bug but for Y reason it wont work, we're still trying to get around it dont worry" something like that which takes like 20 seconds to type out and boom. MOST people are reassured that there are fixes on the way.

Unfortunately the loud mouths are usually the ones who want to find an excuse to complain about anything which kind of pushes devs away from communicating with their community.

Okay, yes the PC version definitely has some major issues, I apologize if I made it sound like it didn't. What's worse if that most of the PC patches seemed to bring more problems even as they fixed others. (or so I've heard?)

What gets to me is that the PC has had so many more patches than the consoles, and more communication from the developers to check in if those patches are working.

But on the console end it's been fairly silent for some time even as players beg to know that these problems are even being looked at. I agree whole heartedly that an acknowledgement that even a small attempt had been made at some point would be reassuring to even the worst of us critics. Instead we feel abandoned. Which I think makes people all the more desperate and biting in their comments, not a good cycle that. Even an official apology saying that they couldn't look into the problem quite yet would put me at ease.

I don't want them to drop everything and fix all of these bugs - that's just not reasonable in a company setting and I wouldn't ask it. I just want...I don't know, some word on how things are going? If they're going? Selfish as it is, I want some reassurance that when I fight tooth and nail defending this company to my friends (and others) that my faith hasn't been horribly misplaced.
