If you think there is a chance they are not built optimally, or you don't think they compliment the inquisitor well, then yes.  Respec amulets aren't particularly expensive.

To just know exactly what they do should only require looking at their power trees, tactics, and behaviors though.

ok, its more so i can change them to fit with my mage, im a knight enchanter elf mage, i use black wall as heavy up front, varric as long range single target and solas as pure barrior/revive and croud controle and its working great, just dont know if to change them to be completely a set type of spec. If u get what i mean

We have a dedicated forum full of threads about possible builds for each major class here:

http://forum.bioware...classes-builds/

All your companions use the same abilities as you would, so they apply for them, too.

P.S.: Otherwise, if you just think you messed them up somehow and would like "fix" them without thinking too much about it, there's always "Auto level up".

If its working great, there won't be much to be gained from just respec'ing them.  Unless you want to try something completely different for them.

I tend to respec everyone when they get their specializations just because I think the points can be better distributed.  I am also not opposed to completely switching Blackwall over from W+S to 2H at that time.  I sometimes switch around mage elemental types, but not all that often.  I did buy a whole bunch of amulets my first run to mess around with different things, but that was more learning about the game than anything else.

I respec everyone that goes on missions with me at least once, when my IQ gets a specialization. I've sometimes respec'd several times during a PT, depending on the situation.

Yeah! If you think respecing will help you get the max stats you want, do it! Respec amulets are relatively cheap so you can keep playing around with builds that work best for your mage.

I changed Bull to sword and shield and made him vaguely useful rather than the 2 hits and die mess he was.

I will usually respec the companions I plan to use, sorry Sera and Viv you all get to clean the stables for me, so they compliment what my PC will be doing and the skills he has.

I only tend to respec Bull and Cole and that's because the AI is absolutely awful at handling 2H and DW and they're too squishy. I respec Bull to S&S and Cole to archer. Assassin works perfectly well with archer rogues as it does with DW and there's enough in Vanguard and Battlemaster to keep Bull going without having to dip into Reaver.

I might respec my mages if I'm running an archer and change from using 2 melees and Dorian to 1 melee and Dorian and Solas. I'd have been running Dorian as having more support stuff from the Spirit school under the first party makeup but Solas does better with support and Rift with a bit of Ice so I'd respec Dorian into Fire/Necro/Lightning.

At least one yes. For instance I have an inquisitor who was an artificer. I thought it was unnecessary to have two artificers so I respeced Varric. I got rid of all his perks for artificer (Which weren't many but still) and I used them for sabotage.  So do it for whoever has the same specialization as you and give them another category. Or have it the other way around. Like I'd have my character be an artificer maybe but just specialize in sabotage.

I find myself doing it a lot more often that is probably needed. Is it because I am searching for a sweet spot? Maybe, but more than likely its because I am indecisive, lol. .

I do not respec my companions.  I'm of the opinion that they are (mostly) adults and have chosen to be what they want to be. I just work with the squishier ones by giving them armor or weapons that generate guard on hit or  mind blast or unbowed or something to make them more defensible.

I design party builds that synergize with one another.  I keep Varric as an archer and Cole as daggers in most cases.  I use Varric a lot to bump up my effective crit chance though I sometimes use Cole for sleep bomb and mark.  Cassandra is very commonly used in my playthoughs, the extra defense for all and chance of weakness as well as the stun/purge bomb is hard to give up.   I rarely use Iron Bull.

I disagree entirely with the postscript.  If the problem is that the companions aren't acting the way you think they could be, I don't think letting AI determine how to build them from now on is going to provide a satisfactory outcome.  On paper, it might look good, but sometimes, you really don't know until you try.

My suggestion would be to make a named save, so if you goof, you can start over, make the changes you think might work, then go somewhere only moderately intense to practice and see if it works better.  The rogues all need armor and you wanted to take the boys out hunting anyway.  If it doesn't, you can decide to make further changes or go back without having to replay or buy more amulets.  You can see if what you've got in mind is more fun, and still decide for yourself which areas you want to tweak.  Plus, if it works, you'll have some bearskin or corpse hearts.
