The tactical AI in this game can be frustrating/infuriating. Gone are the days in DAO when I had the whole party wait for me while I stealth-killed all the archers at the Temple of Sacred Ashes. The Inquisitor cannot stray too far from the party without them eventually following... a rather "liberal" interpretation of the "hold position" command.

However, I'm beginning to get the hang of this. Here's how I took out Commander Duhaime and his crew from behind a wall, perched on a rock, while my party played Wicked Grace and argued about the deep symbolism in Swords & Shields.

Interested?

The rock is not far from the Briathos' Steps camp, just around the bend from where the demon-rift was. From this position, there is no way to actually enter the camp, but there is a rock which a ranged character can utilize. My Inquisitor is a Dalish mage and I brought along Cassandra, Solas and Varric.

Set Cassandra's (or other tank) behavior to defend your ranged character, in my case, the Inquisitor. Set the rest of the party to follow Cassandra.

They will happily NOT charge in and use up healing potions (need those for the Villa, playing on nightmare difficulty, don't wanna be a wuss and go rest) while you take out the entire outdoor force at range while they run around like frenzied August Rams.

Nicely done, no tactical view needed... sort of exploity, but I don't think so because that's what your behaviors screen is intended for, IMO.

Thoughts?

Didn't the enemy archer that runs up onto the wooden platform to the left give you trouble? I kind of accidentally fell into the same tactic you are talking about -- the battleground kind of lends itself to that -- but the enemy archer was two-shotting my peeps.
