It has been suggested even before DAI came out, but bioware's response to that suggestion has always been not possible due to technical difficulty.

Unless I've misunderstood, or it's only for specific titles, but I believe that Windows 10 is supposed to allow cross play between Win 10 and X-box one.

Edit: Just re-read an article. Looks like its title specific with Fable being quoted as the first to have it, and more games added down the track.

The game Shadowrun from 2007 had cross platform gameplay between Xbox 360 and PC, so it's been possible through Microsofts Live network for a good many years. It just hasn't been a widely used feature by developers.

As for Microsoft vs Non-Microsoft Networks, I don't think that will be possible in a forseeable future, however given Microsofts new leadership direction it may be possible if the 3rd party (aka, Sony) can live up to Microsofts requirements.

Guess I should've made my post clearer. I know it is possible to have cross-platform MP. FFXIV has done it between PC and PS3. What I was trying to say is technical difficulty is bioware's official stance on the matter, and only bioware knows whether the reason behind the decision to not have cross-platform MP is actually due to "technical difficulty" or not.

It seems MS are looking to make cross platform easier between Windows PC and X-box, so perhaps that might lead to something. But then again maybe not because the PS4 guys will then say 'What about us' so no one gets anything.

Even just merging PS3 and PS4 together (and maybe XB360 + XBone) may help.  We know it's possible because tiny studios like Arrowhead Game Studios managed to make Helldivers PS4 + PS3 + Vita cross-play.

I'm from New Zealand too and to add insult to injury, we have to play with Australians  ;)

But there is more than one reason why we have empty games and it is partly due to play numbers but mostly due to the strict ping/region locking they have in place.

I believe people in UK are having the same problem, being an Island Nation away from the main land mass..

Nope.  If you have a good internet connection in the UK you get matched all over the place.  I get matched with Americans (both northern sorts:  proper and Canadians) and all of western Europe regularly.

While it may be latency-matching, there doesn't seem to be region-locking as per the old days of NTSC / PAL / far east.

I sympathise kiwis being forced to play with ozzies, especially since most of them just seem to moan about their poor connections  ;)

That would be cool. Perhaps a Ranged Rogue with summonable Deep Roads minions: starting with Deepstalkers on a skill tree and then going through Cave Spiders, War Nugs, then Bronto as a final skill?

Hell.yes. :)

I'm on Fiber 100/100 with super pings and 0 jitter etc and I only get matched up with Australia.

Australia is the worst country to be paired with because they have **** internet, if you are connecting across the atlantic then I should be connecting to Asia and South Pacific, South America or even the West Coast of the States, so there is some strict ping filtering happening.
