I checked the dungeon tiles, and I must admit the poly count is high enough - more than the stock tiles, and much more than the sewer tileset I'm currently building. I suppose it can be an issue if you're trying to build a very large area. A solution would be to cut this area in several parts, maybe ?

Thanks. The area wasn't that large; 24 x 24, and it was working okay before I started adding placeables, customized tiles, and visual effects, so I'm not sure. Maybe all the additions pushed it over the limit? I think now I need to rebuild it in a smaller area, starting with just the tiles. Kind of a pain, but I wasn't completely satisfied with the previous layout anyway.
