I think the problem is that people are more critical to female characters then males. If a female shows vulnerablilty players will criticize her for being too soft and accuse the developers of being "sexist" if she's a tough kick ass character, then she'll be considered a "man with boobs."

I play games regardless if they're geared towards men or woman. Question... are any games geared specifically towards woman? (besides little cutesie games like facebook games)

But if they seem like fun, I'll play regardless of who it's meant for. I think it just depends on the person and what they prefer. I don't prefer anything, as long as it looks fun.

My sister only plays Hello Kitty World and crappy little games on her ipad or iphone. She doesn't consider herself a gamer at all.

That is a common issue with female characters in games nowadays.

The Atelier games are a good example. You usually tend to play a girl surrounded by oh god I think i'm questioning my sexuality level of handsome guys. Though it kinda differs depending on which trilogy it is.

More men game, and the majority of "female"/"lesbian"/"gender-neutral" people online are men posing as women for attention.

Women play games, sure, but it's not sexist, misogynist, racist, bigoted, or whatever other buzzword SJWs wanna spout off. It's pure fact men play games much more than women, and men obviously enjoy most of said games. Even the publicized female gamers, like the Twitch streamers, do nothing but make "silly" comments while showing their audience as much cleavage as possible (and full nudity in some cases) for attention and viewership.

True female gamers are non-existent compared to the number of male gamers. It's fact and nothing more, nothing less.

Are games designed towards males? Sure. Any product's designed to its demographic. Fat people are whom fast food places market to, because they're their demographic. High-end clothing stores market to the rich. Social media markets to teenagers. Gaming markets to males.

Women are different from men, men are different from women. As the quote in the OP stated, it's true that even if a developer tries to interest a female audience, they rarely if ever succeed.

Those would be PC games, right?

I've only played a PC game once a very long time ago. So I have no idea what kind of games are out there for PC.

Trying to cater to gender never works out well. It just doesn't. And Gygax was a genius to see this so long ago.

Understandable. It's a JRPG with a focus on alchemy and more simple storylines over epic journeys. It's about as nishe as games can get

I really don't play games with fixed female characters. For example Tomb Rider.

But in games with character creator, I may have female characters about 20% of the number of my playthroughs.

There seems to be a decent amount of girls who play WoW actually.

Can attest to this. There are 3 women in my guild that I raid with every week (and a 4th from another guild that we play with).

Either that or a lot of guys extremely dedicated to sounding like girls over voice chat.

In most cases in terms of gameplay progress in that game, it is beneficial to make people know you are a girl. You'll get pampered like crazy and long lived communities will fall apart around you overnight, especially if a girl posts a pic somewhere or has a really nice voice. :P

Just how that game's community generally is. Some gals play it cause they know they don't have to do much to see everything, there's always some poor sod who will work his ass off in game, to get you what you want.

Me too, but they're few and far between, at least after the prologue.

A few games with QTE are good like God of War.
