I'm not all that interested in the DLC. What about makes spiders worse? I thought they were fairly tame in DA:I myself since they don't crawl down from the ceiling hissing anymore.

I might have missed something, but as far as I could tell, they were no different. It was just more of them along the river and they kept respawning. I found them to be more annoying than scary, and this is coming from a girl who is terrified of spiders.

I once panicked an entire Starbucks because a friend placed a plastic spider on my napkin. I screamed so loud it was chaos. Babies crying, old people clutching their chests, dropped coffee and bear claws-- I started pandemonium. The most the spiders caused me to do in DAI is mutter, "FFS, again!"

the scariest spider encounter I had in DA:I was the giant spider at the top of I think its the emerald graves map. big foresty region when it comes over the top of a rock wall. and that was mostly because I was low on health and potions when it appeared.

Grrr, I know that spot!  That was one of the only times that spiders scared me in DA:I.   Origins spiders gave me several jump scares.  Then again, I'm usually on late at night so hearing that at 3am by yourself while the game is otherwise quiet doesn't help. 

 

Now if you're talking about little creepy things that pop up and can scare the crap out of me more often, that would be deepstalkers.  I hate their face, I hate their little screech, and their ability to just pop out of the ground in an area that you might have otherwise cleared.   Whichever dev came up with it is an evil genus.  Emphasis on the evil.

All's I can say is that leaping shot is my favoritest ability because of that encounter. It's basically my go-to NOPE maneuver when some creepy ass thing skitters my way.
