Has anyone opened chest since the "improved loot" system has gone into effect?

I opened about 30 large chests this afternoon, and saw nothing useful at all.

The only difference I noticed is less level 1-7 weapons, but most of the loot was between level 8-15.

I've opened about 700,000 gold worth of chest. Is 8-15 the target area for loot for that many chest opened?

It doesn't seem to be very improved at all yet.

The only uniques I saw was a level 9 sunless staff, and a level 10 Audacity aoe dagger.

I was really hoping for a better improvement than what I've seen so far.

I'll give it another 100 large chest before I make my final decision on whether the loot system is still crap or not, but for now it still seems awful.

This was the first improvement of many to come for the loot system.

Some quick comparative numbers for you:

Your odds of getting an item level 15+ was roughly 1:9. It is now 1:5

Your odds of getting an item level 1-8 was roughly 1:2. it is now 1:40

Your odds to get a Sulevin Blade before was roughly 1:12000. It is now 1:10000

In the coming weeks I'll be working on shifting some of the items around to different rarities, hopefully updating it once a week very slightly. We've also got a lot more uses for the raw resources as well now (with more coming!).

I'm gonna wait until the DLC hits with spending my saved up 300K gold. Hopefully I can get some free armours for the new classes.

Each armour I get, saves me roughly 50 materials, which instead can be used for crafting the Dragon's Call. (Summon Dragon)

Nowhere near enough. Especially since duplicates for the high end items drop.

And even more super special especially since this game does not have a system that lets you mitigate the RNG of the system by guaranteeing a conversion of time spent into items you want (like, let's say ability to craft a Sulevin or a purple on heal ring) or a way to narrow down the dice roll (like chests with weighted drop tables towards specific item classes).

Learn from ARPGs. Hitting an item progression wall, especially with these kind of rarities, is extraordinarily demoralizing. And before the "but people will quit if they get everything too easily!" shows up, consider that:

A. Bioware is committed to content updates.

B. Would you rather have players quit because of frustration with a terrible reward system or because they played the game and enjoyed it to the fullest the could, experienced everything that was interesting to them ?

Yes, I too can really appreciate the stats. It sets a more realistic view on what kind of odds we are up against.

Sadly though, for many people these numbers really don't do much to help us progress. Maybe the dragon drops will be something that can used as a progression tool. Or when the rarity of items start to change.

Like I said, I'll go in to much more detail on Tuesday during the stream but this was just the first step and modifying the loot progression as a whole. The quick and dirty of what went in today is that there are three 'tiers' for equipment and I have smoothed out the curve for which tier you'll be likely to pull from depending on how far along the 'item progression' you are.

I should also mention thats the odds to get a SPECIFIC Unique. Your odds to get any tier 3 unique weapon are about 1:174 (up from 1:277). Your odds of any unique are obviously higher.

Using the Sullevin Blade example, here is how the system breaks down what you got (in the most non-technical way possible):

1) You get an item

2) You have a chance for it to be tier 1, 2 or 3

3) IF you rolled tier 3 you have a chance for it to be a Tier-3 item of either armor, weapon, accessory, upgrade, or a rune for the tier you rolled

4) IF you rolled a weapon you now have a chance for it to be normal, rare or unique

5) IF you rolled unique you now have a chance for it to be a 1h weapon, 2h weapon, bow ...etc.

6) IF you rolled 2h weapon you now have a chance for it to be a Sullevin Blade.

So basically #2 has been drastically improved. Next will probably be #3 and 4 relative to your item score.

You're welcome to wait until the next drop of improvements before spending gold BUT I will say that on top of my plans to add a bunch more rare and unique items in to the tiers I also might pull some out :bandit:

Holy crud, actual numbers. Can confirm, in-line with my own observations on empiric results. Have 2.3M+ total gold earned, and 1M+ gold spent (or 4k+ items received), with most of it at the higher progression (as opposed to earlier) lot now. That is the order of magnitude calculated for getting any particular specific high end item for me with the previous system.

I actually been lucky earlier than later with the odds you've given above, though definitely gotten most of the 'chase' items with those odds. . . I could totally see going until 10M+ gold until getting certain specific items though with those odds. . . possibly even 100M+ with really bad luck. However, there should be really awesome gear in-between. . . just exceedingly less likely to chase specific items, and very possible to miss them in place of duplicates.

The specific math of the statistics involved is a little more work than I'm willing to calculate right now though, but the implications are mind boggling to think about.

I spent about 40k and I got my very first Walking Bomb Ring, after having played the MP for almost 1,100 hours and promoted my Necro 61 times. Thanks Bioware.

I don't think players are quitting when they get the best end game items.

In fact, I think it to be just the opposite. The players that stick around, are the ones that have been fortunate enough to get some of the best items in the game.

I think the people who quit, are the ones who quit out of frustration from the terrible loot/progression system.

I see A LOT of players on PS4, using sul blade. Even in routine/threatening matches. Many of whom, who have not opened thousands of chests.

WHY? Especially since it has such a low drop rate.

The answer is simple, these players are the lucky players who got some good loot and decided to stick around. We don't see the thousands who have quit to make a comparison on the many who were not fortunate enough to get the weapon.

Saw a level 15 reaver in perilous with the sulevin blade. He didn't even have the tier 2 armor. So sad.

From my own personal findings, it seems the griffin bow is a unique bow that everyone seems to get multiple times compared to other high level unique weapons. Perhaps it's because it's a level 21, but almost everyone I know have duplicate griffons compared to punched by the maker.

3) IF you rolled tier 3 you have a chance for it to be a Tier-3 item of either a rune, a rune, a rune, a rune, or a rune for the tier you rolled

Fixed. Thanks for the information, though.

Seriously? I couldn't get a Longbow of the Griffon if I got a second mortgage and used it to buy platinum.

To be fair, armor in perilous is more cosmetic than functionally useful for the Reaver. It is pretty much just wasted materials crafting them, only removing a tiny portion of potential slots from the loot table.

I've only gotten three high level unique weapons; two griffon bows and a walking death dagger.  You may be right.
