Is it ok to play pug as a newbie with no mic

I had a lot of fun with mass effects multiplayer as you could play the game without any heavy communication
Being someone with social anxiety, talking with 3 strangers isn't really appealing to me but I do love the idea of co-op games
Or am I just gonna ****** a load of players off?
Obviously I will stick to the beginner level and stick with the team etc...

Most people play without mics, it's no big deal. I'm in a similar boat with the social anxiety, and I get along just fine.

In my region virtually all players don't use mic, quite rare to find someone who does, and we get on just fine in matches.
I think you'll be just fine.
There are other ways you can use to communicate as well. Targeting an enemy and pressing F1 to pinpoint specific enemies for the team, F2 to say "fall back", F3 to say "thank you", and F4 to ping your location.

I'm on Xbox so sadly I don't believe there are any short cuts to communicate like on the pc x

Mics can be very useful, especially for playing 'properly' in difficult games. But given decent gear/team/skill, perilous can be successfully completed without mics just like platinum could in ME3. Learning how to be a good team member is far more likely to result in happy team mates than talking. Don't worry, jump in and enjoy yourself.

You'll be fine. I jumped in with no mic. You'll be bad at first as we all were and then you'll get better. Just play and have fun ![]()

I was just wondering it is safe to start playing pug with no mic

It's a sensible concern, which I had before I started playing on XB1.
I found that mic use is occasional and largely unnecessary.
I'm sure there are many players (if not most) who never mic.
All I would say about the callouts (D-pad) is that in practice there are only two of then needed:
- The 'come here' (down) - so long as not spammed, and
- The 'thanks' (right)
The 'focus on this enemy' is largely irrelevant as different classes work best against different foes,
and if you're considering a 'retreat' call, then you're already stuffed, frankly ![]()
Beyond that, stick with the team and you'll be fine.
Oh, hopping up and down in front of a Keeper sometimes works if you want a Barrier ![]()

I have a mic and rarely use it. The "oh you're a girl" response when I do talk bugs me. Nobody notices, though, because most people never talk.

What would there even be to talk about with pugs. "Hey look, a demon" "ok"
Maybe dragon fights will require more coordination.

I play with my mic disabled 99% of the time. It's mostly used to apologise. Like today, when I sacrificed a Keeper for the sake of extracting.

We're all quite bored here, lol. We sit around and argue about things we have no control over anyways, actually helping somebody out is like a chocolate bar falling out of the sky ![]()

Play how you like. Nobody can force you to do ANYTHING. So do not do things outside your own comfort zone!
On a note: Private games, where all use microphones, are by far the most fun to be had in this game.

If I use my mic I end up apologizing for every little thing I think I do wrong and I'm more likely to play waaaay worse, so I've had mine disabled lately. Plus, pugging with music in the background and a sense of anonymity can be pretty relaxing. It's always nice to see new people trying DAMP so I hope you have fun ![]()
