You have to shut off your brain for the Reapers to make any sense. The "ships" are sentient and seemingly immortal but the actual Reapers inside them are just vulnerable robots with no point in existing?
Once you concede that there's no reason for the people-goo robots to exist then you concede that Reapers make no sense and that ME2 is stupid.

Do you even like Mass Effect? Everything you say seems to suggest otherwise.

I agree a lot of things about ME2 and 3 are "lore breaking" and stupid but you just have to learn to not take it too seriously. They're still both really good games.

You can like something without thinking it's perfect in every way. ME1 is one of my favorite games ever, despite the clunkiness. ME3, while stupid and hamfisted in most ways, has really fun gameplay. I very much like the franchise overall, but each game has flaws and ME2 has some major ones.

I don't take such a nonchalant attitude with the things I plunk down good money and a lot of time for. I loved ME1 so my hopes were high for the franchise.

not defeneding this guy but i think you can both realise that mass effect works off of space magic and contrivances then realise that they dont bother you love the game and the story

Not really space magic is the term used to explain the poorly written/implemented aspects of the series as well as any contrivances. Element zero on the other hand is written to be believable within the laws of the series.

And that's still better than 99% of science fiction out there.   I mean, hell, they could put in the codex itself, "Space MAAAAGIC!"  and it would still be better than most science fiction.

Element Zero. The thing that does dark energy and stuff.

May as well call it lyrium.

I would rather have it take a backseat to the main story, unlike most sci fi where the space magic is upfront and in your face.  Because mostly what that turns into, is the writer trying to explain it all away.

Fair enough I suppose, but you just seem to hate on so much about 2 and 3 that it doesn't much left to like about them.

Personally I dislike ME1. I don't hate it, but the story and characters are the only reasons I play whenever I start a new playthrough.

Given you have Krogans in Dragon Age and Ogres in Mass Effect it's probably just different names for the same thing.  Biotics manipulate dark energy; mages use lyrium to manipulate primal forces.  So there you go.

Those aren't actual signs that the Dragon Age and Mass Effect worlds coexist, they're just fun Easter eggs for fans of both.

Even if it isn't hard science, it should at least stay consistent.  Otherwise I'm left to wonder why they didn't just build a machine to turn all the reapers into chickens and have  a barbeque

I actually enjoyed the extensive codex features of the Mass Effect franchise so far.  I was glad to see it carry over into the Dragon Age series; Dragon Age: Origins having come out after Mass Effect, if I am not mistaken.

Anyway, the codex entries were done well enough and explained logically enough to actually lend a bit of support to the future technology and sci-fi elements of Mass Effect.  Even the "space magic" was explained in a well enough way.

I wish they would have stuck with the voiced narration of the codex entries, though.  That added touch was a nice feature.

I also wish they would have attained Morgan Freeman as a voice actor, for codex narration alone.

I just can't wait :D Hope they show something at E3.

On the other hand, I'm pretty worried about the engine change, and not just because of the effect over the release date it could have. Say anything you want about Frostbite 3' stability (yep, crap, basically),  but that engine sure looks a lot better than FOX's, at least as far as I've seen...

And here I was considering buying a new PC for ME:N...I may not even need the trouble...

Bioware will almost definitely show their stuff during the EA conference, which is 1 PM Pacific and 4 PM Eastern time Monday, June 15th.  This conference is said to be about an hour long, and EA will have EA sports crap to show, and likely other games as well.  I'd say this would give Bioware 20-30 minutes for their stuff.

They are wanting to show a new IP as well as the next Mass Effect game, so if Mass Effect is shown, it will likely be 10-20 minutes worth of trailer and discussion.  Maybe some gamplay videos and images if we lucky.

Chances are good that we'll get a lot of answers to lingering questions and wonders, but guard yourself and don't get your hopes up for a 20 minute live gameplay session or anything.

Nah, 10 minutes tops. And no new IP.

EA has EA Sports (FIFA, Madden, NHL, maybe NBA Live), Battlefront, Need for Speed, Mirror's Edge, new Plants vs. Zombies, Criterion's weird sports game, maybe Visceral's Star Wars game, Mass Effect and maybe something we don't know about.

That's a lot of games for a one hour conference.

The presence of sports games on their conference actually has diminished in the past couple years, they mainly focus on FIFA and show an overall trailer for the other games.

Normally EA shows 7-8 games in their conference, they open and close it with big games and I expect the new Mass Effect be the one who closes the conference.

Right now I am thinking EA will open with Battlefront and close with Mass Effect unless they are announcing a new unannounced game.

I don't know if I should get my hopes up. DA:I's actual reveal was barely even coherent and I didn't get anything out of whatever that 1 minute teaser was. I'm only gonna be excited if we can see some actual gameplay of this game this E3.

I'll take anything to feed my MEU need.

But not too much. I'd like to be somewhat surprised on Day 1 playthru. Because I usually buy Day 1 with Bioware games.

Yes, I was born in a minute. (sucker born...)

The only thing I'm worried about is ME4's release date. Don't games get released roughly a year after their first teaser? That means, even if we get a teaser at E3 2015, we'll get ME4 at E3 2016 at the earliest. Maybe we'll be REALLY lucky, and Bioware will give us a full trailer with an early '16 release date.

This is pretty much a given now. IMO, in terms of likelihood (and barring any delays... and well, Bioware gets delays a LOT so..):

1. Late 2016

2. Early 2016

3. Early 2017+ (can happen, not likely yet)

4. Mid 2016 (because releasing around summer isn't that common of a thing)

5. Late 2015 (hey, still sorta possible, but not easy to bet on now)

I'm hoping for Early 2016 now, though prepared for Late 2016.

If they just tease us around this E3, I'll lean more towards Late 2016 than now. If they, yeah, give us a full trailer and start up the hype big time, then Early 2016. This is ultimately just guessing though. In any case, the countdown will be on, no matter how long and annoying that countdown will be, haha.

Sometime in March or April, 4 years since the release of ME3.

I think it will be late 2016/early 2017. With how little they've announced, they still have at least a year to go. Last year they even said they had years to go.

I also think the Mass Effect Shepard Trilogy Remastered will come out this year though, probably on or around N7 Day. Both as a way to keep the current fans sated by giving them the trilogy on the next gen consoles with some upgrades and a shiny new paintjob, and a way to get new potential fans into the universe before the new game. Like what 343 Industries did with Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

To me it has more to do with EA and their release schedule and when they believe they will make the most profit for gaming it seems the Fall/Winter window is when they make more money because of Christmas sales when people are buying games for others.  If EA doesn't have a game for that release window I can easily see Mass Effect being scheduled there, but if they have another game already in that release slot I can see them not wanting to release Mass Effect then because then the two game are competing for sales.
