I wish the codex entries looked less generic and more like books

When I stumble upon writings in the game and that generic small box with a black background and white text pops up in the middle of the screen I sigh. I don't like how it scrolls either. I wish they would make these look like actual scraps of paper and books etc. Similar ones could have similar looks and old ones would look old etc. I think that would be much more immersive. Right now it's just very dull and generic.

I didn't mind it. Simple is nice, and typically ages well at least.

Basically? Eh. If they had better things to do than snaz up the codex boxes, I think I'm fine with that. XD

Really, I often just exit that and go visit the entry in the codex section of the menu anyway. That way I can see what card image went with it. :V

I wish codex entries worked like they did in DAO, where we weren't forced to actually look at the entry. You picked up a codex entry, and a little notification would pop up letting you know an entry was added or updated. That's it. Gotta love how asking Cullen about where he's from makes the conversation get interrupted by a big codex entry, which then closes out the conversation when you back out of the entry. Then you have to quickly re-enter the conversation before Cullen finishes his line.

Bioware... why? One of the few things I disliked about DA2 was the in-your-face codex entries that were annoying to close out of if you were playing on PC. With DAI I can use my xbox controller, but why does B close the entry and not A? I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have be kicked out of the conversation if you hadn't assigned the button which exits conversation to closing those damn codexes. Very rarely will I be interested in reading the codex, and I certainly don't want to use it as my main source of lore.

I wish the text would be big enough for me to read them.

I wish they were done like the Mass Effect series where I could press a button and listen while I got myself a cupa tea :)

Perhaps they could add some unique art work with the codex entries like they do with loading screens. I would love to see more tarot card styled art work to depict the events of a codex entry. I think the artist could certainly compliment the writers stories with their art.

Ya know Bioware could get far more out of this if they classified the major areas and subsets:

  1. Frostbite's World space
  2. Character controller -UI, dialog, cutscenes, animation and behaviors, memories, emotions, etc. (pretty sure your post goes here)
  3. Interface controls and harware

By doing so they can use it as a QA tool also as feedback.

UI design is a lost art.

Many modern games (especially AAA games) seem to take the easy and boring path of minimal and bland art design.

Thank god for games like Pillars of Eternity that show how good UI designs can improve a game.
