Is DAI worth playing thru or just YouTube it and call it a day?

It sounds like you overhyped yourself at the start there, which is a shame, I hate when that happens. But! I enjoyed it? If you're wary of the time it'll take, I'd advise you at least do a run through of the main questline. You won't even need to unlock all the regions that way, so it shortens the game significantly (though you will need to do some sidquests to build up necessary power at a few points). Easing up the difficulty could help with time, too. But that, at least having the ability to make the choices involved yourself, would be better than watching someone else play, I think, especially since you already own a copy. The game takes a bit to pick up, but once it did, I enjoyed it. *shrugs*

Yup.

Take into account that a lot of people here have nostalgia goggles on. "The newest one is nowhere as good as the older works" is something you'll hear about every franchise ever. Nothing new.

I've no doubt you'll fall in love with the story, the characters and the fun combat.

FWIW, I watched tons of dragon battles before trying one, but my first actual one A) was very challenging -- videos make it look easier than it actually is, and B) raised the hair on the back of my neck. The videos never did that.

Videos can't really grasp the ... yes, I'm going to say it ... grandeur of the environment. If exploration is at all in your playstyle, it's worth playing. If you got all the story and RP from the videos, you can skip all that and still enjoy exploring, fighting some random encounters, and discovering places that are rarely, or never, videod.

If you do decide to go with it, go PC and use cheatengine to give yourself perks, gold and mats, that cuts out the majority of the gathering/grinding MMO stuff and lets you focus on doing the main story. Watching it on YT is cool, but if you play it'll be your character and more your story since you'll be making the decisions and fighting the dragons.

I strongly recommend playing it OP, but I also think you should play Dragon Age Origins and it's expansion Awakenings, as well as Dragon Age 2 before playing Inquisition. It's a really enjoyable franchise in my opinion.

Best game of 2014 in my opinion.

You have it, why not enjoy it?

But leave the Hinterlands, and only come back when you get your ass kicked elsewhere.

No offence intended, but if you bought two versions of the game, read and youtubed extensively and can't or won't go past the tutorial area, it probably isn't your cup of tea. While the game has been reviewed very positively, player reactions seem to be a bit more mixed.

If you have games in your backlog that are more universally praised or that you feel more confident about, play those instead.

The only way you are going to discover whether it's worth it for you personally, is by playing it. You could set it aside for a rainy week during a game drought (no irony intended).

If you like the game play it, if not, don't waste your life on it. As for the other two games, you can get Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition right now off of Steam for like 7 bucks. It's the main game, expansion and all DLC, if you don't have DA:O that is version to buy, moreover most critics agree that DA:O is a very good RPG, one worth playing. If you are to play any of the games in the series I say get the Ultimate edition over anything else. If you like it, your interest might carry over into the other games. I myself have liked all the Dragon Age games. The grinding in Inquisition is my biggest gripe, it has MMO like side quests which are annoying, but if you play the game on PC you can use cheat engine to cut back on the grinding. My other gripe with Inquisition was that Weekes and Gaider were seemingly too timid to end the Cassandra romance appropriately if she becomes Divine, by that I mean, they did the Bioware copout and left it "open to interpretation". Also, Bioware can be way too politically correct, to the point that they (I guess) feel that swords have been far to "privileged" in past RPGs, therefore they had to make axes and maces superior to swords in Dragon age Inquisition. XD so if you like "sword and board", in Inquisition you are **** out of luck, swords suck, so it's more like "Axe or mace and board". lol

I really enjoyed the game and invested many hours into it. It's not a very good YouTube experience because much of it is open-world travelling which, unless you're personally invested in the character, can come across as tedious and boring.

Honestly, I was severly disappointed by this lackluster of a game, so I'd say just youtube it....

Be warned that DA:Inquisition can be extremely tedious even on easy mode.

Basically OP, your mileage may vary (as this thread demonstrates).

You're just going to have to make your own mind up, I'm afraid  :D

Character wise, Origins is better. Despite the constant whining on the forums about Origins being far superior, that's about it. DA:I is much easier to play through, so if you find it tedious, you'll never get through DA:O.

DA:I's main problem is that they tried to fill the open world with DA:O's worse assets. The quality is basically the same, however, so if you skip most of them, you'd hardly be able to tell the difference.

If you like DA:I's characters. you'll like DA:I as much as you'd like any other Dragon Age.

I wasn't a fan
DA:O and even DA2 were better

Played them numerous times with DA:I I had to force myself through one playthrough and since

then I haven't touched the game again

I've played through it twice and I tried watching it on youtube to compare other people's gaming experience and their own decision making to my own.

It was nowhere near as fun as playing it myself.

I can't make the decision for you. I love the game myself, and I love DA2 and Origins. They each have their own strengths and weaknesses. I like how you play different protagonists each game because it's not about a single character but about the progression of the world itself.

I would highly suggest playing each game at least once. And Inquisition, I think, has a richer experience if you've played the other games beforehand as you'll have a higher emotional attachment to certain characters, some of whom you'll have to make decisions regarding in Inquisition.

I'm not giving spoilers but Hawke, the protagonist of DA2, and potentially one of three people we meet in either or both of the games become important to a decision the Inquisitor makes.

That's all I'm saying on the matter.

I'd recommend at least one playthrough for yourself. I'm sorry if you overhyped yourself, but you also shouldn't let the opinions of others dictate the decisions you yourself make for yourself.

I've played through it multiple times to try different romance options. Played both male and female characters and played a gay elf so I could romance Dorian. I had a great time, but now I am totally burned out on the game, and if I have to grind the Hinterlands one more time, I may go mad.

I've put the game aside for the moment, waiting for the DLC to come out on my antiquated console so I can play that.

Playing through the different romance options made it worthwhile. I don't think you get the same sense of drama just watching it on YouTube, so I say, you already own the game, go play it. There are some amazing areas later in the game, just don't get too tied up in the Hinterlands and you'll be fine. You don't need to do everything there unless you are OCD and have to finish.

Even though I didn't particularly like DAI (I rate it 7/10 in spite of my issues with it), it's worth a playthrough. Just don't attempt to do all of the endless filler content that seem to exist solely to pad out the very short main story. Find a walkthrough that will lead you through the critical path and you should be able to finish it in less than 25 hours (as opposed to 100+ to do everything). Play on easy or normal, since the combat is boring and it makes the fights end faster, as the enemies health bars aren't quite so bloated that way. Play it once, then forget it.

meh, I think I like the characters and music in The DRAGON AGE Games more than the actual games themselves honestly. If Bioware brings all your companions from this title and the previous ones back as playables in DA4 and brings back the inquisitor I might give it a go then but right now I just feel there is no point. The MASS EFFECT Trilogy was truly one of a kind, revolutionary, there is just simply no other experience like it out there no matter how much I try to convince myself there is.......I like character relationship continuity more than world continuity and if we could get both that would be a plus but DRAGON AGE does not do that unfortunately. That's probably why I could never drive myself to play any of them.

I doubt you will give it a go. There's so much doubt.
