I chose Gaspard because not only did he seem a better military choice for the current situation, but he was also more then happy to have peace with Ferelden and focus all his attention on Tevinter (war table operation Delicate Negotiations i think), it is said often in the game that Orlais is the only thing holding Tevinter at bay and honestly Nevarra never occurred to me actually when making the decision so I can't comment on that part.

sorry but that's a bad Idea. the idea is to stop more war from happening...even with tevinter.

I admit to not caring about Nevarra, just Ferelden.

Nevarra seems to have the friendliest relationship with Tevinter compared to other nations. So, I would think that if Nevarra were ever truly threatened by Orlais, they could get some Tevinter support. If Orlais really pushed its weight against Nevarra, Tevinter might get really involved as well, just to have more influence in Nevarra or possibly turn it into a puppet. Probably spark another Exalted March like with what happened last time Tevinter pushed its influence south, but Tevinter weathered Marches before and could possibly just cement an alliance with Nevarra... or I could just be dreaming that possibility.

 Tevinter+Nevarra

 ...Nevarra almost went to war with tevinter in dai....

True. Dorian says in dialogue that Tevinter is never likely to ally with anyone, at best the Archon asks the Inquisition to kick some Venatori away from their borders as a neutral party. I don't see Orlais and Tevinter becoming friends, ever, so I thought I might as well keep Orlais' military strength up with Tevinter's so both are hesitant to break out into a proper war with each other. I never said it was a good plan, haha.

Or you can try to change Tevinter from the inside out. Orlias is going to be military strong no matter what you do...Even with Celene in charge. The focus now would be tevintor and nevarra.

I am perfectly fine with Orlais and Tevinter carving Nevarra up like a sunday turkey.

The only reason I'd care if Orlais annexed Ferelden is because I'd like to see how much better the Couslands run the place once the Theirins have thankfully died out.

You can already see it, v just do a male Cousland and marry him to Anora.

I can't think of a worse idea, the last thing in the world Thedas needs is a warmonger like him. Celene and Briala on the other hand push for reforms that Orlais really needs.

If your priority is Orlais, Gaspard is the "better" choice.

If your priority includes other nations, Celene is the "better" choice.

Gaspard is a warmonger and expansionist. From the perspective of bettering Orlais, he seems more capable than Celene (though he could potentially do an equal amount of damage), but that comes at the cost of other nations potentially being conquered and/or damaged by war.

War is the crucible that forges empires, it is the furnace that smelts the raw potential of time and place into something real.

And Gaspard is the only one of the three choices to understand what Drakon knew a thousand years before.

Sometimes war is needed.

Relevant to the point how?

I mean your avatar is a self consumed parasite that consumes all life around him.

I said "friendliest," I didn't say they were totally best buds...

One can dream that the dream team of Tevinter+Nevarra could happen one day.

My point was that your avatar basically just wanted the whole world to burn, so supporting Gaspard makes sense in your case I suppose. As for mine, yea thats true, I suppose it's a good thing I never really notice my avatar.

Do we know what Antiva's official relations with Tevinter are? I imagine they can't be too hostile since they have no army to defend themselves with.

Gaspard will bring civilization and faith to the backward nations surrounding the empire, particularly Ferelden the birthplace of Andraste which is in dire need of it, it is clamoring to be released: please free me from the yoke of the doglords! I don´t want to smell like wetdog anymore.

And Gaspard shall answer the cries of help of fair Ferelden, and free her from the barbarians, this time for good.

Long live the Empire.

Two different universes, two different sets of rules.

Gaspard has different policies and different politics.

Supporting militant imperialism is viable dragon age.

So no.

Not really relevant.

Antiva doesn't have a respected mage class or magic ingrained into their culture as much as Nevarra. I would say that Rivain probably has better relations with Tevinter than Antiva, but considering the tolerance of the Qunari, Tevinter probably just sees them as Qunari-lovers or something.

This whole Celene and Gaspard thing is a lot like the Bhelen or Harrowmont conflict. One is great about bringing reforms, but is kind of a jerk personally, and the other is a little more traditional and is personally quite honorable, but doesn't have much respect for outside nations.

Keeping them both in positions of power sounds great to me. They can work together and do great things, or just bicker and let Nevarra rise even more. Doesn't matter much to my canon Inquisitor, he's a Marcher.

As for Briala ruling through Gaspard, that is just as stupid imo. Briala is a moron whose plan does not go beyond "let everyone kill each other and screw the consequences, because elves she herself is throwing under the bus for her own advancement."

The epilogue confirms that she pushes through reforms that improve the lives of Orlesian elves. She's ruthless and ambitious, but doesn't ignore the plight of the city elves. Through this ending, Gaspard is far more controllable thanks to his decline in popularity amongst some of the nobles and the threat of Briala (who retains control of the eluvian network) and her alliance with the Inquisition.
