Well, to be fair, the title asks which combination you like to play and why. That doesn't actually exclude "None" as a possibility. Your OP also doesn't mention romances at all until the links, so I could take it as asking for reasoning as to why you like a certain combination because different characters react differently, not only romances.

Title mentions "class/romance" and "race/romance" combinations, so it should've been obvious.

My favorite would have to be Cullen/Elf Mage.

I did like my Blackwall/Elf Mage playthrough, but I really had to fight myself to not go with Cullen again for that one. The conversation when first arriving at Skyhold... wow.

It is, but you missed my point. What if I have a cool in-game reason for romancing no one? Something that related to how the characters react, or my class, etc? That's the point of this thread, isn't it?

Cassandra - Human for me.

and then Cassandra - Mage.

Love the fact that despite her reserves, the only love she's ever found was within Mages.

Going beyond what the thread asks, I'm just going to name which race I feel goes best with each potential romance. Keep in mind this is just my opinion/reflections from my personal playthroughs.

1) Cassandra - Human (preferably Mage or Warrior)

2) Cullen - Human (Mage)

3) Josephine - Human (Warrior)

4) Blackwall - Elf

5) Iron Bull - Qunari

6) Sera - Qunari

7) Dorian - Human (Mage)

And Solas is race-gated lol but obviously Elf.

Cullen / Human warrior

Cass / Human warrior

Due to their occupation and the people they interact with, it's not surprising that Cullen and Cass's former partners were mages. I didn't want to continue in that vein. Thus.

My favourite three combo are

1. Cassandra /human mage. Pro-circle loyalist type who sides with Templars. This character almost feels like the story was designed for them.

2. Solas/ Elf mage. Finally got to play a Dalish! The amount of elven lore in this game really suited such a character. She absorbed the Templars into the inquisition. Second place, cause it was a little annoying my elf didn't know who Mythal was.... :-\

3. Harding/ Male Dwarf. This game is an absolute tease for dwarven lore and enchantments. Brilliant characters like Dagna and Harding. Third place however, cause none of these fine dwarfettes are available for a fully fledged romance.

I have no romantic arc in my story, because my Inquisitor doesn't get along with Cass, Josie's romance is shallow and I refuse to be gay.

I'm not sure whether that's considered a gutsy bucking of the trend or a regrettable missing of a good subplot. But I guess I'll never know.

Mine is less of a 'canon' and more a 'what I chose at the time', seeing as DAI never really grabbed me that much. FWIW, I went with Human Two-hander Warrior, romancing Cassandra.

Well, really, the most meaningful companion subplots are not really tied to romance anyway, unless you're really into dueling Lord Monsanto.

My canon run is: Josephine/ female Qunari (mage)

Alternative playthroughs: Cullen/ female Elf (archer), Dorian/ male Qunari (S&S warrior), and Cassandra/ male Human (mage)

Oh, I half-assed romanced all possible 5 toons with female Lavallen mage.

I ended up with no1 because of a game bug, which is why you shouldn't romance 5 characters on a single play through.

In the end Sera with F/Lavallen FTW.

I notice some male gamers complaining that you have to cater to her to make her like you...this is different than gifts in DA:O how?

And, have you ever dated a woman?

I was sad when Cassandra shot me down; however, some characters are just straight...like some people.  I know it's odd.  No spoiler for me on Cassie...the "Let's be friends speech" was hysterical.  I was surprised to get shot down that hard.

Personally, I like Bioware's romances...weird I know.  I like them jacked up.  If they were written for happily ever after...this game might be more addictive.  LOL.

future romances planned:

human/cullen

male elf/iron bull

qunari/sera

:o Poor little man elf.

I haven't done all the romances yet. Only Solas, Blackwall and Cassandra.

I romanced Cassandra with a male elf, and honestly I was kinda dissapointed at the lack of Dalish elf/human drama conversations. Temple of Mythal was especially weird, when she apparently forgot that she's dating a Dalish dude and called them heretics or something. I think it's best to romance her with a human or a Qunari.

Blackwall I romanced with a dwarf rogue and honestly I can't imagine romancing him with someone else. Female Dwarf actually gets some unique dialogue options when romancing him.

And my fav romance was Solas with lady elf(obviously) Rift Mage(again, obviously:). It gave me so many feels, simply beautifully done. And ironic, considering who Solas really is. Dude is definitely going to be a major figure in DA4/Inquisition dlc( I hope for dlc), so romancing him is interesting.

For me it's a combination of both race and class, so two polls doesn't really describe my choice.

My primary romance is Dorian. Aesthetics aside, I prefer the idea of going with a human, non-mage for him. Since the mage Trevelyan matriculated in the Circle system, he isn't going to have the same mentality as relates to being a noble as a non-mage. I prefer this because I consider the non-mage Trevelyan to be more of a peer to Dorian than any other combination. (Yes, I do realize that many of his fellow mages back in Tevinter would laugh in my face for this.)

My personal canon is Dorian/Human Mage.

Dorian, because is my favorite companion( I like characters sarcastic, passionate and a little mad...extravagant ,but with a very complex personality)

Mage...because I always play  like a mage, it's my preferred class... only exception was DAO: my warden was a rogue...but only because I romanced Alistair in my first run.

Human is my favorite race for reasons of identification.

Spoiler
and every time I try to convince myself that this time I'll romance Cullen, I just need to replay this and I regain my sanity.

Since different characters respond slightly differently to certain races and classes, I'm curious if anyone did any specific race/class combinations for certain characters because they deemed it more fitting, more interesting or simply liked more.

Would love to hear your reasoning as well.

Romanced Blackwall with Cadash on first PT. I didn't fully appreciate the Carta conversation until after I beat the game because I thought the other races had dialogue tailored for their backgrounds as well. I thought Cadash was the fraud in the relationship because I didn't get what he saw in her. He was so white-knight-like and she was this thug in the wrong place at the wrong time. He got a whole lot more interesting after Revelations so I definitely dug the twist. I also like it when relationships get tested so that's why it's one of my favorites of the series.

I specifically romanced Iron Bull on a second dwarf after I watched his romance videos. I wasn't interested at first because of the suspension of disbelief required for the extreme size differences, but I really, really appreciated how they bent over backwards to make the cinematics work and to be inclusive of all races. What got me was the epilogue scene where they just stuck Cadash on a barrel in the end, like screw it, they're just going to own it and put it in there. I had tears streaming down my face from the comedy of it. Bull doesn't have any dwarf specific stuff that I recall, but he just doesn't care about details like that. Total non-issue. Unconditional acceptance.

So far, I have:

Josephine/Qunari: Josie is the most lady-like LI we've had, and is all about fluffy and cheesy romance. Combining that with a race that's stereotypically seen and brutish and gruff is very entertaining. Double points because my Adaar is a mage too.

Sera/Elf: This was my very first PT, so I didn't know about Sera's feelings on elves at the time. It ended up having a lot of friction and drama, but I actually liked that in the end. It gave the romance and PT a very unique flavour, which I doubt will be repeated in the other Sera romances.

Cassandra/Human: I really wanted to romance her with a Circle mage, so human it is! I love the idea of a high-ranking Chantry member shacking up with a mage, and seeing their discussions on things like the Circle and Chantry.

Iron Bull/Dwarf: Interesting height difference, that's all!

Solas too. Lined up but not played include Dorian/Elf, Cass/Elf, Josie/Elf, Blackwall/Dwarf, Cullen/Human, Sera/Qunari. I didn't vote on the class poll since it's single-choice only.

Since people are explaining their reasonings, I prefer Trevelyan/Dorian because Dorian's had an awful lot of heart ache regarding sex and romance and I love the idea of him finding his Prince Charming rather than a smuggler, mercenary, or nomad.

Oh, I hadn't considered this before. I like the sound of it, might give Dorian/Trevelyan a whirl!

I'm so surprised(not) very few of you romanced Blackwall with a female Cadash. That's the most romantic pair I've ever played compared to the rest.. Especially after his past was revealed. And I felt like I have to protect him/nurture his fate at all cost... more like a husband being trapped by his past with me being the governor.

Compared to Cullen/Solas who I felt forced to romance/girl fan [wtf it's called] with human and elven Inquisitor...  I felt no love/connection at all toward those two. They didn't even place their trust or let part of their life into me the way I'd have expected... Just kisses and that's it.

I don't like romances I have to dream of.

My favourite comb.. are definetely Blackwall - female Cadash Rogue  and Cassandra - male Trevelayn Rogue.

Also Female Adaar Mage with Sera.. but it looks like a fling with a best friend.
