[Terminator Force]

Saber Volus Merc. Exploding Drone,  Exploding Decoy. Profit.

 

I tried it once with both of them set for Exploding and didn't like it. I at least need the Decoy set for tanking longer so say if there's a Prime, I set him the Decoy to keep him busy. Use Drone to help clean up the rest of the mooks around, then come back to the Prime who is still busy with my Decoy until I finish him + also invite drone friend to play with the Prime too.

 

So yeah, I like to toss it both when the chance arises, but it's mostly the drone that gets spammed with the Decoy getting tossed out every now and then (even if no one is around, just dump it and forget it, as eventually an enemy finds it and thus help my teammates with agro) and when a tank drone is needed.

 

 

So yeah, Drone for exploding and Decoy for tanking works best. Because Decoy is dump and forget or when I want both of them out, while Drone is for spamming every chance I get.

 

I also like to dump the Decoy right next to me while I focus of some distant enemies with my Drone and not having to worry about watching my back. Because the Decoy will stop any mook trying to sneak up on me for instant death (ie. Pyro).

1) Cyclonics are the most powerful equipment on a Volus.

2) Every Volus has two different cloaks. One can be used by just using the button to cloak, the other can be used while the first is on CD and you're sprinting. In other words you can stay cloaked perpetually throughout an entire game. 

3) Walk shortly but carry a big stick. Only the engineer really has a high damage spammable power so you have to have weapons that can put out pain to be an offensive contributor. Generally I'm spamming a power like stasis and shooting things in the head or priming and spamming PM to combo explode things.

4) You're a ****** tank so play like one. Don't be clustered around teammates spamming shield boost, go out in cloak and kill ****, you can tank just fine if you shield boost at the proper times.

5) Know when to shield boost. Objectives, when a teammate's character has that "wounded" callout, when someone is about to take a banshee ball or Atlas missile to the face. Timing can minimize damage to you and your team. Also when there are goddamn swarmers in the vicinity.

Speaking of speccing decoy.

I think you can't go wrong with either shields or duration at rank 4 of decoy.

Because from my experience there are some enemies in this game that can't accurately aim at the decoy which is where duration would help there. I once put it on a group of pyros and geth hunters and were taking longer to kill decoy as opposed to like a geth rocket trooper that can aim at the decoy reliably.

 

And as for rank 6 of decoy. Personally preference IMO, I've used both and I slightly prefer exploding decoy just because it's free damage anything close in range near the decoy. But extra shields and duration is useful as well for having more time to kill enemies.

I've wondered about this.  Do decoys have damage reduction, or are enemies as you said just terrible aim at it?  They seem to last a lot longer than they should at Rank 3 with the amount of shields they get.

IMO I would say it's bad aim. At least theoretically at a 1000 shields as a player you should be dying reasonably fast in a group of hunters and pyros but since it's a decoy with a 1000 shields I would say it's horrendously bad accuracy.

I remember reading here that that is the case. But one thing is for sure, it lasts way longer then the  amount of shields it says it has. Thing tanks better then a KroSent.

Just yesterday we had Geth on Glacier, and the entire spawn went after the decoy while the escort mission slipped around the back.  It was both stupid and awesome.

Tanking double banshees has never been more fun. Volus are one of the most enjoyable characters to play when you can focus on support role. Not because that's what they're supposed to be but because it's fun.
The Mercury can totally neutralize Geth for instance, some hack scenarios get finished without even seeing a single robot because they love that decoy. Merc owns Geth.

Outside of the Juggernaut, playing as the Volus Merc in a full team is the most relaxing way to play this game + easiest way to help and revive poor pugs too. Wish my new account would unlock him already. Instead it keeps giving me the UR cards of Volus Engineer and Volus Adept. Sigh. UR my butt.

 

EDIT - and as another side note. Volus Merc is still my new fave kit in this game.

They also have 2 bonus powers. Merc in particular is worth 2 kits in a Geth game, 3 if Venom
