Is modding Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 okay to do? Somebody told me your Origin account will be banned and you can't play if you do Mod and when I went to customer support chat they basically told me the same thing. Yet there is a modding forum here so I'm a little confused.

So the digital downloads through Origin won't be banned of they are modded then?
This is my first chat with the Origin Support chat: (Deleted name and email and added * for account security)
info: Your approximate wait time is 0 minute.
info: You are now ready to chat with Rohit.
Rohit: Thanks for contacting EA Customer Experience, my name is Rohit. How may I assist you today?
you: Hi, I bought all three Mass Effect games this weekend and I was looking into some mods for appearance and came across something saying that Origin doesn't allow mods. Is that true?
you: I usually mod the heck out of my other games like ELder Scrolls for like hair especially and wasn't sure if this was true
Rohit: hello
Rohit: okay
you: Don't want to install and skins or mods though if I'm not supposed to though. (Though it would be nice to add more hairstyles)
Rohit: May i know for which game you are talking about?
you: Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3
you: I don
you: I don't care about any multiplayer stuff, just the normal single player
Rohit: Okay
Rohit: May I know on which platform you are playing?
you: PC
Rohit: Thanks
Rohit: May I have your name, please?
you: Your welcome
you: *****************
Rohit: Thank you,*****
Rohit: Glad to meet you.
Rohit: Would you mind if I place your chat on hold for couple of minutes to look into the issue?

Rohit: Before we proceed further, can you answer a security question" "
What street did you grow up on?
you: Its no problem, just want to make sure I don't do anything to get banned over. *********
you: Like I said I like adding mods and skins to make my characters look different like longer hair.
you: But not worth it if I get banned for it
Rohit: Thank you.
you: Your welcome
Rohit: As I have disccussed your issue with my senior team.
Rohit: So, they asked me to advise you that, we don't allow mods
you: Ok, thank you, a little disappointing honestly but better to have no mods than get banned.
Rohit: I can understand youir concern
Rohit: But I would like to suggest you to post this issue on the forums
you: Thank you for your help with this
Rohit: Because, Most of our developers take their leads from the forums, so you should definitely post something up there.

Ok, so Rohit was helpful, but I don't understand why he said that when apparently there is an official modding page here in the forums. So after finding this forum, I decided I'd go back to the chat and ask about the forum, and this guy took literally forever and wouldn't even really answer any of my questions instead telling me to come here. I am very annoyed with the second one, I'm not very computer savy and I am worried about spending all this money on all three Mass Effect games but I really would like to add better textures and different appearance settings. Below is the second chat:
info: Your approximate wait time is 0 minute.
info: You are now ready to chat with Mahipal.
Mahipal: Thanks for contacting EA Customer Experience, my name is Mahipal. How may I assist you today?
you: Hi, I was told by someone that if I use mods in Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3 that I could get banned and came here earlier and somebody told me that they weren't allowed.
you: But somebody pointed this site out to me http://forum.bioware...dding-projects/
you: and told me that's your official Mass Effect modding page, so I'm a little confused
you: Is that really your page or did I misunderstand something earlier? Sorry about the trouble
you: Just want to be careful with my account because I don't want to get banned and lose all the money I spent on my games
you: But somebody said that was your official Modding page so I'm a little confused
Mahipal: Hello.
you: Hi
you: Did you get my question, I wasn't sure if this froze up or not?
you: Oh, I also wanted to know if it was okay to Mod Dragon Age since I was thinking about buying it
Mahipal: Yes,
Mahipal: I suggest you to post you issue on your official forum.
Mahipal: I am providing you a link of our forum.
Mahipal: http://forum.ea.com/...ories/list.page
you: Okay, but does that mean that the other link wasn't your official modding page though?
you: Becuse I just went through that link to the Mass Effect franchise and it was the link I sent earlier that does have a modding section with mods.
Mahipal: It is also an official ink.
Mahipal: *link
Mahipal: Is there anything else I can help you with today?
you: I don't understand then though, I was told (I thought) that you weren't supposed to mod earlier but there is an official forum on modding? I'm really sorry, I just wanted to clear it up because like I said I don't want to have my account banned and I'd like to have it straightened out before I actually start my game so I know if I can mod the textures or not.
you: And I did post there to, thank you for cnfirming it was an official link.
Mahipal: Is there anything else I can help you with today?
you: I just wanted to get an official answer about modding since that was the offical forum as I'm not sure I understand.
Mahipal: I suggest you to post your query as a post on forum and our team will provide you relevant information about your query there.
info: Your chat transcript will be sent to ********* at the end of your chat session.
So I still don't fully understand why the first guy told me that they don't allow modding and why the second time wouldn't even answer anything if they are support. I've never been to anywhere that told me to go to the forums instead of talking to official customer support. This is my first experience with Origin though I was planning on buying all of the DragonAge games next and now I'm not so sure.

This is the link most of us modders for Mass Effect reference in our installers.

Basically, if you're not playing multiplayer, you're fine. If someone ever does play multiplayer, just make sure the coalesced file isn't edited is the main thing, since that can be used to cheat. In your case, you're fine since you appear to just be playing singleplayer.

I play with a modded coalesced in Me3MP ever since the Reckoning DLC came out, and nothing ever happened. (Talon key binding 'fix')
Also there is Mgamerz' ModMaker for ME3MP (with thread in the MP subforum), so I don't think they actually ban anyone using something like that.
(Really the only reason would be if you cheated for credits, but they don't even care about that anymore)$
Edit:
Does anyone believe me, if I say that I only know noticed the unintentional $ -sign after the last sentence?
(Notebooks keyboard, arrrg
)
It's fitting somehow, so I let it stay.
Oh, and this:
oh and cheating is not nice anyway, so better not do it, kids.

Hey, look, Ottemis is back!!! ![]()
Long time no see. Welcome back! How are things?
As for the topic: Yea, MP stuff can theoretically get you banned, although from what I've heard, they haven't banned people in over a year. But I don't play MP, so better not take my word for it ... oh and cheating is not nice anyway, so better not do it, kids. ![]()
