Like in the title, any news about the most epic Trilogy coming to next-gen XboxONE and PS4?

From unofficial and not very reliable source I've heard it's about to come in September this year?

This is why gaming is going down hill.

Instead of making new games, developers are too busy making old games from new consoles.

Steam is full of reworked older games.

It needs to stop.  I have all three games, bought separately on both 360 and PC.  Even if I was to get a X1, I wouldn't bother getting ME trilogy on it.  I see no point to it.

I can support first one gets a nice overhaul because it got really old mechanics wise. Even at its release it was KOTOR with dialogue wheel anyway. Oh and Mako, darn it!

ME 2 and ME 3 were similar and felt just right in gameplay.

I suspect Bioware decided to not bother with doing a remaster, and if that's the case, well, then it's a shame to let what has been dubbed by many as the original Star Wars trilogy of gaming to wither away.

Had they decided to try go the crowdfunding route to see if there's a solid interest in such an endeavor, I have no doubts that it would have quickly reached its goal and then some.

Sadly, we are probably left to mod the crap out of the current PC versions using grey market means to eek out a more polished trilogy and its DLC.

Video game remasters are not financially (or even creatively) burdening the industry, as some would have us believe.  New AAA projects cost tens (if not hundreds) of millions of dollars to develop nowadays, whereas remasters are a small fraction of that range of money.

If a developer and/or publisher who has a history of releasing remasters seems like they're not bothering with any new IPs, 9 times out of 10, it is due to funding.  There are always ideas floating around as to what to do next, but the money to get it done doesn't grow on trees.

And for all we know, Mass Effect Andromeda could flop just as Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace did with respect to critical reception, therefore, if my suspicion is correct, and there will be no official remaster, then what's done is done and an opportunity to reinvigorate the franchise has been sorely missed by Bioware, and it's quite a sad story, the end.

Me too man - was looking forward to playing the console GUI version with upgraded visuals and other new or enhanced features @ 1080p-60fps on PS4, XB1, or PC.

I don't disagree that the amount of remasters has ballooned excessively, but even so, if there was one IP I'd have picked to re-release in such a fashion, it would have always been the Mass Effect trilogy.

Bad decision by EA and Bioware to leave it alone IMO, especially if ME4 turns out to be poop.

PS4 needs backwards compatibility for the ME Trilogy, so we have something at least.

Argh I am still disappointed they aren't going to be doing a remaster though, it is my favourite franchise..... :(

This is why gaming is going down hill.

Instead of making new games, developers are too busy making old games from new consoles.

Not exactly how I would've put it. The industry is suffering transitions. See, the next gen offers a ton of new good feats and resourses, so the consoles and PC are going through it, ok. Costs us and the industry dearly (new console and more expensive games).

Next, it's the creativity crisis. How many AAA games made a place in your heart for having an amazing gameplay or history? FPS "monopoly" of 2 games, RTS on the brink of disappearing (some classics, again, like the Age remasters, and SC2, saving the grace), the eternal Final Fantasy quest to bring back the success of the old classics (wich are also being remastered), and so many examples in so many fields of gaming, but I hope you get the point.

The next gen makes the remakes/remasters possible, and they seem to be the most promising, financially talking, for the company. And for us, it's amazing because we can relive the good times we had playing those games. Those are the real games we played, made for fun, and released in a full state, with real expansions released in time, not with the intent of being sold for R$ 250 (imagine you paying US$ 250 on a game, thats how we here in Brazil feel), and having to buy packs and packs of DLC to really have the full game.

It's a crisis. Once all the greatest classics of oldschool gaming gets their remasterization, then we can worry about new games. But by then, the indies and remasters of today (wich are coming in a really good quality) will be the new AAA games.

While we're at it:

Microsoft has said that backwards compatibility requires publisher approval.  They were the publisher for the original Mass Effect on the 360, so they pre-approved that one themselves, but anything beyond that is going to require EA/BioWare approval, or it can't happen.

EA/BioWare?  Please approve it.  Please give Microsoft permission to make ME2/ME3 backwards compatible on XB1.  Since you're not going to remaster 'em, there shouldn't be any business reason to withhold that permission.  So, please!

I'd be happy if the only thing that changed was ME1 combat to match ME3, that is my only problem with the original trilogy.

Heh, my preference would be for the exact opposite.  In terms of gameplay and mechanics (eg. character stats/skills), I'll take ME1 over the other two.

Keep your 360 around even if we get backwards compatability. Don't have the link but a test of this showed ME1 dropping the Xbox1 to 10fps. It's not going to be an adequate substitute.

I got much better results than that, but the advice is good anyway.  My 360 is moving to our guest room once the backwards compatibility is a little more polished, where it'll be plugged in alongside my original XBox, PS2, PSX, Wii, and GameCube.  (There's a Genesis and SNES in that room too, but they're not plugged in today -- not enough room on the A/V switcher.  And the 2600 is in storage.)
