I know it depends on the the type of enemy you are fighting, but what is the overall most effective rune to use? I just unlocked a level 18 Purple Bow called Perseverance. It's my first high level purple!  I want to put one of my best runes on it. I have three master runes available: Fire, Frost and Lightning. I read that Frost isn't all that great since not a lot of enemies are weak to it. I also read that Lightening is a very good choice, plus I love the way it looks. Not really important though.

 

Just looking for advice on which master rune would be best for the bow. Thanks! 

 

Note: I will likely use the Hunter more than the Archer. I like him better. Not sure it that makes a difference...

Honestly, use whatever one you think has the best visual effects.  Worth far more than the small damage differences related to certain enemies.

I use lightning rune where I can, because it's effective against both rage demons and despair demons, both of which are a pain in the arse. Also, it looks cool.

Fire's super bright visually looks like flames, 

Lightning looks like moving electricity (also super bright), 

and Frost is the least bright effects (if you hate things that glow too much, frost would be the one to pick)

 

They don't really do much though, but since fire and frost are in elemental demon form (like the person above said), 

lightning would be best if you like doing the best damage at all times (since fire doesn't work too well against fire, etc)

 

Though it's minimal damage, so

I'd just choose the one you like most visually, really

(unless you find one of the demons hard and want to counter it specifically)

I tend to use the lightning runes mostly. Less damage is resisted and its a good all rounder.

If they ever did introduce a darkspawn faction, i would love to see cleansing, dragon and demon slaying runes added.

Personally I'm racist against frost runes, mostly on the principle that Despair Demons are some of the most criminally annoying things around.

I actually generally run fire runes just to do extra damage to these buggers.

I opted for a frost rune in my dragon maul in an attempt to capitalize on the Avvar's frost armor as much as possible.

Don't forget that lightning damage can cause weakened enemies susceptible to sleep to fall asleep       (like red templar commander)

 

Works great with the Reaver whose crits can weaken enemies if you have a high enough crit chance

Since spirit runes are staff only and therefore out of the question:
From what i observed and calculated, fire (aside from spirit) runes will do the most damage overall, followed by frost and lightning last.

But we whould need a full list of resistances and spawn amounts to prove anything.

Overall, there is no 'best rune'. Lightning is best vs Venatori due to Gladiators and Brutes being vulnerable to it and the rest of the faction having no resistance to any other element (except the commander and mages, which are variable), but thats about it. Red Templars and Demons have enemies that are of all elemental bias, so there is no 'best' rune against them.

I'd say fire runes.

Groups mainly farm the frost dragon, and despair demons are the primary enemy you want to kill asap.

Doesn't it also do extra damage to Rev's and Arcane Horror's?

Nothing has spirit resist, lots of things are spirit vulnerable
