Nobody uses this any more.

I dropped into a GIP today, right at the beginning of the first wave. The host had almost no points, so they must have started alone. They were playing a flamer Vorcha with the Reegar, and hiding in the box of shame. They only emerged once it was clear (by the middle of the second wave) that the other three of us weren't going to hide for the whole match. After it was over, I checked and saw that the host had set it to Rio/Reapers.

This was on gold.

Reminds me about a guy we had in class. Whenever we played football he would stand - or rather cower - in a corner in fear to be hit by the ball. Being the teenage assholes that we were - guess what happened...

Haha in high school gym class volleyball there was a girl who would just cover her head and duck if the ball came her way, so every time I was up to serve I would serve it right to her.

Eventually the gym teacher told me to serve it to someone else

I'm doing quite a bit of plat pugging due to starting a new account recently. Rio and lolgiant presets with puggernauts as host dwarf all other combinations.

What platform? I'm doing exclusively Platinum pugging on PC and the majority of time it's U/U (if not I leave). I rarely see preset maps.

Your idea of a Juggernaut with Volus support has one huge, obvious flaw: Lack of dps.

That actually sounds like an good idea. I play my Jugg in a "higher risk/reward" fashion.

Many bosses on me? Hex shield, take steps back, let them walk through it for prmining while refilling shields with heavy melee, unload 3 (Resistance Damage spec) SP's and immediately reload those. Wait till cool down finishes, rinse and repeat.

With that play style, you're a bit squishy for 1-2 seconds. A volus would be perfect there.

I usually ditch the "weapon damage/power damage" skill tree entirely, toss a shield drone behind me, and only bother with a hex shield to cover squadmates or prevent long range fighter while tanking.    For the actual mobs I just go "heavy melee, light melee, heavy melee, light melee, heavy melee, light melee..."  Light melee cancels the 'cooldown" on heavy melee, plus staggers most enemies.

I yet to understand why people build the PUGgernaut as a straight-up melee kit. It's not fast, it's not efficient, the Juggy is slow and maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see why it seems like a good idea to melee everything, when you have Siege Pulse and weapons.

beacause they can't find the SEIGE PULSE button on their controller... if you aint Juggy siege pulsin, you aint @#*&%!

They removed my glorious People are Stupid GIF, ..On Topic, I was skimming thru this thread..Did someone say that using the Box of Shame was a "tactic"?...I always see people doing that and I think they are doing it as a Last Resort because they suck at Gold.

That's how I used to play him on Silver, and if I was to play Jug on that difficulty again, I'd go for full melee build once more. On Gold I played him with Spitfire, AR amps and all, and it's not great. Better than melee build on Gold, but not great. The goal of this character is to hold the line and revive fallen teammates, not deal damage. For that, melee build makes at least as much sense as weapons build.

Siege Pulse as offensive ability? I don't know. Detonating 6+1 explosions with ammo priming? That's not a whole lot of damage, and you need a very light weapon for it to work. What light gun works well on Juggernaut? I can't think of any (except maybe Harrier on some maps where you can hug an ammo box).

You are a seige cannon platform with legs... any other goal is just hipster nonsense.

Try a glitched full points build for some real LOLs.  :)

It's a tactic, just not a very good one.

Note to self: never take shield boost when playing Volus.

It's all about context, SB is highly valuable on a VOLUS, you just need to use it in the proper situation.  PUGs who spam it are typical idiots who don't understand it's use (or the bug).  Be ready to SB during objectives (not spam), and use SB when picking up other players (I like to pick em up into a full sheild to increase survival).  Listen for the clues on when to boost yer buddies, and use SB to cancel the DOT effects.

The real role of the VOLUS is to debuff, particularly the VOLGINEER is most effective (again the full points glitched build is fun).  Recon mine in a high traffic area, then spam proxy mine into it like a grendade launcher (all specd to debuf).

I prefer the Destroyer for being a weapons platform.  The Juggernaut is just a sitting duck when trying to focus on shooting, which I don't like.  like "yay i'm one shotting mooks" *All enemies on the stage focus on me due to towering over all cover* On gold and platinum that can get you killed pretty easy.  Seems more practical to focus on tanking and draining, diverting attention from squadmates.  SP is better as a last resort than primary offense, imo.

You got it backwards. Kill everythig with fire 'plosions and if you get shieldgated, drain shields to survive, then continue killing.

exactamundo!

Try the GPS with incendiary ammo (you can hit across the map!), and start the SP splosions from a distance.  Also a flamer turret tossed into a spawn/choke point keeps the SP explosions rockin.  Hell, my fav tactic when cornered is to grab a boss, hold their ass in my turret flame and alternate SPing/shotty them to oblivion (even more fun if you add hex sheild to the mix).

And every good Juggy needs his little debuffing and SB supporting VOLUS buddy... You won't hold just the line, you'll push it back about 100 yards!

Most maps have plenty of soft cover that he can use (plus hex shield, if you spec into it), and you need to keep moving, just like any other kit. You're still thinking like a melee puggernaut. Even though he's slow, he's not immobile- you don't have to just stand in one place (usually out in the open, if you're like most pugs). As far as staying alive (on platinum in particular), Adrenaline 3 is almost better than a Cyclonic. And if you're moving around, using soft cover as you can, he has enough firepower and general havoc-wreaking capabilities that he really should only need to melee to refill shields a handful of times per game (i.e. in those "oh ****" situations).

I still feel like there's better options for going offense, and the Juggernaut is better used as a tank.

If I'm gonna be that slow, I want it to be due to overwhelming firepower, a la the Destroyer.

It will always be my first instinct to fend off the bosses with a Juggernaut, freeing up my squadmates from sync kills or general distractions.

If that were a credible argument, then we'd all play as the GI every single game and never play anything else. And its not really an either/or- he still can, should, and WILL be drawing the majority of enemy aggro, particularly from sync-enemies; you really don't have to choose between either tanking aggro OR actually killing stuff (by using weapons/SP instead of melee). But to each their own so if you find slowly, painfully chipping away at enemies with the Jugg's incredibly inefficient melee, then go buck wild.
