So, people are going to be disappointed and angry with the Black Emporium update. And they really shouldn't be, because it's a cool update that we get 100% free-of-charge. That's pretty awesome.

But here's the thing, because of a lack of communication between Bioware and their players, people expected things from the Black Emporium that weren't delivered. Issues and complaints that have been vocally discussed since the game's release (and some before even that) remain in the game. But what's making matters worse is that players still have no idea when or if these issues will ever be addressed.

Looking at these forums over the last few months, a few of the most vocal (and reasonable) complaints and requests are these:

-Players want more options in the Character Creator. Specifically more hair options.

-Players want a few more unique-looking items. Specifically more race-specific armors.

-Players want an alternate option for the formal attire at Skyhold.

There are more of course, but these seem to be some of the most complained about and reasonably easy-to-address issues.

We need you to talk to us about these concerns. We may not like the answers we may get, but at least put our concerns to rest rather than leaving us hanging and expecting fixes were there aren't any; a-la the Black Emporium.

"Yes," "no," "we're working on it." Something.

New threads are being made about these issues and requests every other day, this has been going on since before the game even launched.

We'd all appreciate some closure! Don't just leave us hanging, that turns out badly for everyone :/

They're too busy working on the DLCs and patching the game to talk. Besides, most comments here are so hostile it's quite understandable they won't come here. However, if they had a community manager and some better PRs, we wouldn't be here right now.

Oh don't get me wrong, if I were a Bioware representative, I'd avoid these comments like they carried the black death.

Most commenters act as though the game has committed some unspeakable crime against all of humanity that can only be appeased by the entire development team performing ritual Seppuku.

But really, all we need is a simple "Yes" "no" or "latter" in response to these issues.

That's it.

Most wouldn't be happy if the response was "No," I would be. But at least that'd put an end to it. As opposed to leaving us utterly in the dark without any confirmation.

Let's just say that the whole release thing quite much butchered my trust in Bioware and how they take care of players. Because there hasn't really been attempt towards old gen to even fix anything during this half of year. We had to figure ourselves what we were missing in the game as well and trying to help each other to make the game work. Bioware didn't even come in half way really : /

I'm just not happy on how they treat their players.

Nonsense, the vast majority of users on this forum are friendly, helpful people that simply want some answers and discuss some things. Actual hostile people are a minority that's only noticable because they are being very, very vocal, like petulant children screaming their lungs out in a store because they want that candy.

This community is one of the friendlier places around that I've experienced, especially given its size and the topics that BioWare thematizes in its games.

I don't think so. There are so many threads filled with hateful comments that in the end it doesn't matter who's right or who's wrong. A lot of people here behave like animals. The kinder and friendlier people are rare. Anyways, just my opinion -- as dumb as it sound to you or anyone reading this.

I haven't paid much attention to the DAI forum sections after I stopped playing DAI disappointedly, but my experience with this cycle back in the ME2, then DA2, then ME3 days (especially during the ME3 ending escapade) was that it's always been recurring names that stuck out for inciting heated arguments. I reckon it's not different for DAI.

In general, if I see a new topic with a question pop up in here, it's usually responded to with the intend to answer and help, or engaging in friendly discussions when opinions differ.

It also helps that I see things in a different perspective than I presume most other users here might do as I've been part of/seen many different online communities, some equally as passionate (shout-out to the old CnC community, in the name of Kane!) about their games as this one is and compared to some of those, this community is pretty tame. I've been places where it's literally eat sh*t or die, or where you get downright bullied and pressured into leaving for not complying with a very specific a narrow set of community-approved opinions. THAT is hostile and toxic environment. In here, if you ask a honest question, the overwhelming amount of users will answer to help.

I actually dare to assume that the rarity of dev interaction with the commubity past the pre-launch hype generation is what drives people to be more edgy, not unlike people misbehaving to garner attention they feel they're missing.

Each time I've seen a developer engage in a discussion, it has been a healthy exchange of arguments and opinions and then maybe one or two guys who're positively nuts who try to start a flame war. And nutjobs do not represent the community. I refuse to have them be our image.

I've seen a couple of threads like this today, this one much more civil I might add, so I'm not getting at folk here.

What I don't understand is:

  1. Why is free stuff met with anger?
  2. Why is stuff that was not promised, a surprise when it is not in the Black Emporium (which is very like the DA2 version).
  3. Why do folk keep insisting it's so 'easy to do' when BioWare have previously tweeted that it isn't.
(and maybe that's not a definitive 'no', but it's close enough)

And what's the rage about?

  • Hairstyles
  • Base Skyhold clothing
  • Armour sets

I understand these may be nice to haves, but since when do game developers have to prioritise angry fan demands over planned DLC?

Dragonslayer is an awesome piece of DLC and the pained debate here is about casual clothing...

I figure those people are either too impatient or too shallow. Programming doesn't seem to be that easy with the Frostbite 3 engine from what I heard.

Well you've hit the nail on the head here. It's met with anger because there's been radio silence about these issues. And they're pretty small issues.

-Those who do 3D modeling as a hobby make better hairs than are available in the game.

-Armor  is also something fairly simple to add. Look at appearance packs released for Mass Effect and new armors and weapons are released all the time.

-People on PC have already figured out easy ways to make it so you can at least wear your armor around Skyhold and not be stuck in the dreaded Pajamas.

Again, it's not so much that the issues themselves are a 'big deal,' quite the opposite in fact. But that's just it. They're small, long-standing issues and we've gotten zero response from Bioware in regards to plans for addressing them.

All they'd need to do is say:

"We're doing X"

"We're not doing Y"

"We have plans for Z, but it may not happen"

Just because you want Bioware to do something, be it talk to you or add a certain item/function to the game, doesn't obligate them to do it.

If you ask the devs a question, and they answer it, and you don't like/accept the answer, they're not obligated to give you a different one. Especially if it pertains to realities of development that you refuse to acknowledge.

Didn't there used to be someone who's job it was to talk to us? And by us I mean the online stuff as a whole but then she left and we changed boards. BW have been a lot quieter ever since.

Of course they're not obliged to give us so much as a single sentence confirming or denying that they've heard the numerous concerns from their player, consumers, and fans.

But it'd be awfully nice if they did.

With this release they have proved themselves to be liars, why would you want them to talk to you?  You may as well have a politician talk to you if lies are your forte.

Not true. You can't lie about something you haven't so much as addressed.

The obvious answer is "no," it's not that hard to say something to the fans. So I'm left to believe that BioWare is either intentionally avoiding the conversation (probably) or they're completely ignorant of the state of morale among big swaths of the community (less likely).

Agreed. (Besides, it was the release of the game itself that showed them to be dubious, at best, not any DLC.)

Because the people expressing the anger are having tremendous fun doing so.  It doesn't really matter how trivial the issue is, as long as it allows people to act outraged.

Honest question; did you read the original post?

Because that's not quite the case. The issue is a lack of communication, not people complaining about free stuff. Although there are inevitably those who will complain about the wrong things for the wrong reasons, this is not such a thread.

Look, if Bioware had just said that BE wasn't going to include the airship they never promised, a lot of this mess could've been avoided.

As I said in the remainder of my original post, it'd be nice and would solve a lot of issues if they simply gave us a "yes" "no" or "maybe so" in regards to some of the most heavily requested fan feedback/issues.additions.etc.

Without any confirmation, people were well in there rights to assume the BE would address a few of these simple and vocally complained about issues, because it was a perfect fit.

You don't have to be intellectually honest and offer meaningful contributions to a discussion if you can just make the people in the thread seem crazy. Identity politicians have been doing it for years now and it's since infected a very loud minority of people in the gaming community.

My guess is they did read the OP, but they don't care to actually address it.

Event if it's "nice" or whatever they're not going to do it because that would be pandering. Bioware is a business. They exist to make money through video games, not to be your friend or be "nice" to you.

They're obviously ignoring the "complaints" because they're not valid. Why would they bother with more hair/armor/outfit options for a finite SP game? The majority of the userbase probably finished the game and moved on to something else.

Seriously, this board is full of OCD weirdoes.
