Could someone explain to me why after two attempts creating characters and manipulating the tapestry, that it doesn't reflect in my gameplay? I spent months and months playing the previous games - carefully selecting all of my choices -  just to have them disregarded! Some of my other friends have experienced the same. What is the point of having and maintaining this Keep tapestry? I love the stories and gameplay, but I find that I'm just wasting so much of my time with this buggy crap and its extremely frustrating.

Can this be fixed?!?

What exactly do you mean by not reflected in your gameplay? Do you mean that things that should be showing up in-game from your custom world are not, like Morrigan's son, or your custom Hawke?

If that's the problem, are you sure you exported your world state into the game? Just creating the world state in itself doesn't change anything in your game, you need to export that world state in the Keep (in the right hand panel, that you open from the upper rightmost globe icon), and then choose to import it when you start a new game in Inquisition. You're even given a timestamp to confirm if you're importing the right save into the right game.

It's important to note too that once you've started a new game, any changes you make at the Keep will no longer be updated into your game - your world state data is baked to your save when you start a game, and those flags can't be changed from that point on (unless you use a third party save editor).

I went in and made my custom world prior to starting a new game. I noticed it the first time in Haven when I spoke to Leliana, and she referred to the Hero of Ferelden as "she", and died killing the archdemon. Mine was a human male mage. I started a new game. Same thing happened. In Redcliffe, Connor was dead. Now I just arrived at Skyhold, and spoke to Hawk, who was male. Mine was female. Grrr. if this was a game series that could be completed in a matter of days I would feel only mildly frustrated in needing to start the game over a third time, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I've noticed a pattern in major game issues since KOTOR days.

Did you click on Export to DA Inquisition?

You also need to be logged in on Origin in Inquisition for it to work.

I was about suggest same, since it sounds like that default world state is used.

Now, if it was Hawke's class that went wrong (and all the other stuff is right), then that is existing bug that I know of. Especially since my second Hawke went from rogue to warrior (not sure if it can happen with mage Hawke, since due the surviving sibling-issue).

Also I would suggest checking time-stamp in Keep-import while starting new game, since it tells if right Keep-save is used.

EDIT: Regarding Hawke's class, now that Keep allows us to see playthrough states, it truly seems that somewhere along the way Hawke's class got switched from rogue to warrior, and only way to fix it(that I know of) is restart game again with right Keep import. Too bad that I really no longer want to do that since I played far too long with Inquisitor in question... I will just try to make World State reflect on what it should be and ignore the Hawke's class while playing.

There are two requirements to use a custom worldstate. If you don't do both, you get the default worldstate.

1) Export the worldstate

In the Keep, you'll see "Need to Export" in the upper right corner. That should open the side menu. Press "Export to DA Inquisition" at the bottom. Make sure the name of the worldstate you created shows up at the very bottom of the menu. Note the date/time of the export.

2) Import the worldstate in the game

At the end of character creation, you'll be asked if you want to import a worldstate. Confirm and then verify that the date/time matches the custom worldstate you exported.

The date/time is the only way to insure you have the worldstate you created. It doesn't go by name, it goes by date/time.

If you are sure you did all of that, then I don't know what to tell you. Unless -- have you created a kajillion worldstates? I think there is a limited number you can create.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for this. I want to start a new game but need to be sure I am doing everything correctly so I don't abandon another 103 hour save to recreate my first playthrough.

Below is my Tapestry. No export option! Nowhere on the page on the left or otherwise indicates that I need to or that I can export my custom world. Please let me know if I'm looking the wrong place. Bioware, why must this be so complicated and problematic?! I even waited until recently to play so you could work all the bugs out of your product. smh.

If someone from Bioware is reading this, please provide me with step by step instructions on how to correctly import a custom world.

You see the little world icon?  Click on that, then select 'export to DAI'.

Try switching worldstates (if you just have one then just make a new one and switch back to your worldstate) and see if you can import.

Click on "Load Another World State" first. I had assumed you had already done that. It doesn't want to assume that the tapestry you are working on, on  the left, is "saved" yet. So it uses three steps:

1) Edit tapestry

2) When you are ready, "Load Another World State"

3) Export

If you have two or three to switch between, you use "Load Another World State" to do the switch. Then Export again to be double sure. I know, it's kind of like asking, "Are you really, really sure?!?". Just follow the instructions on the world state screen.

Notice that, your tapestry on the left has the default name "My World State" (at the top). After you do Load Another World State and drag "My World State" to the box at the top, the bottom right menu should change and say "My World State" instead of "Default World State".

Whoops.  Meant 'export'.
