Anyone know an exact number? I've done 2 already.

Think they said there is a little over two dozen. So somewhere between 24 and 30 I imagine. With more to come via DLC, similar to Normandy crash site.

Okay thanks for the quick reply and how are they gained? Do you randomly scan planets or do you ask appropriate NPC's?

Relatively few are gained while doing the main story paths, sometimes Cerberus gives you ops. The vast majority are found by finding them on planets. No elevators this time, so you have to find them the old fashioned way, which means at least orbiting all the planets. Any planet with a mission will tell you when you orbit it.

There are a few that are strung together in little 'mission trees' similar to Geth Incursion in ME1. You find a clue in one that leads you to another, etc.
