...Gosh, it's been ages since I heard a clamour for more guy-on-guy hotness from a female fan.

It kind of brings me back to my Kingdom Hearts days as a kid in fandom...

Uh. I think I need to wash my brain now, lol, sorry. Anyway, I can't stand Cassandra. I like her even less than Sten, and that's saying something. Her comments to my non-Andrastian elf mage were just the start of massive black clouds over my Inquisitor's head; what definitely made her hate Cassandra was her behaviour in the Temple of Mythal, where she awards the player's choice to go through without unnecessary bloodshed with 'Cassandra disapproves'. Apparently, wholesale slaughtering the last, btw innocent, remnant of ancient elf guards belonging to a different religion is a-ok with her. She talks grand, but when it comes down to it, more often than not she slips into a thuggish nature. Anyway, not the point of this thread xD
 ....

I was just browsing around and saw your comment. In that situation, Cassandra actually made a clear statement  as to her concern that any delay in getting to the water thing and the Venatori would cost Inquistion forces' lives. Hence the disapproval if you take the supplicants'/puzzle route. Her loyalty is witth the people she is fighting with. You may not like that point of view, but that does not make her a thug. Quite the opposite.

Way off topic post here but that is a rule I've never really gotten with some rpers. S/S not allowed but I demand detailed smut with my OC's troo wuv!

Ahem uh I"ll be on my way now sorry.

I'm just gonna stop it there and see if I can try and tie this back to the original topic. Ahem.

I don't know- granted, most of these fanfic writers are still young, so I feel like I douchebag for having poked fun at the idea in the last few of my replies here, so I rarely see a demand for smut for anything. At least, in my experience.

Those who do and eschew away from S/S stuff, well... I'd chalk it up to just an effect of socially-ingrained homophobia. I mean, I didn't know men can have relationships with each other until I was in high school (granted, I went to a private, Catholic school), and the idea of same sex couples was odd to me (though the discovery was pleasant, because I'm gay, and I was like "Oh my God? People can do that!?" Before then, I was determined to remain single.).

Anyway, back to the whole "slash" thing. I did kind of like it as kid, but as I got older and understood what it meant for characters I could relate to to be really included in the stories, fanfiction lost its magic. But I can't really say why female fans (particular those who are mainly heterosexual/bisexual) could be in for it, because I'm not female. I've stuck with independently produced stories which are more likely to include LGBT+ protagonists and less of the titillation I remember from slashfic. But content does get raunchy (however, that's for another rant).

I've wondered why they decided to change Cullen's hair from curly to straight especially since he's had it like that for two games. Maybe the Breach came him such a shock, it straightened his hair and it never curled back again.

A lot of 'change' and not a lot of them were 'good; changes either. I prefer the other Leliana, other Cullen, and other Cassandra.

This article has an interesting theory with some supporting data (N>= 10000) on why there is so much m/m slash. From the data, 80% of the surveyed AO3 readers are female, but less than 30% identified as heterosexual.

I as a gay man myself enjoy a lot m/m slash fanfiction because of many reasons. First it's free. But this also means that a lot of writing is going to be bad, but you can generally spot bad writing a few hundreds words into reading.

Independent works featuring LGBT+ are great, but to get into them requires more investment in time and attention. Sometimes the LGBT characters are great, but I am just not into the universe of the story. When people read fanfiction, they are usually already invested into the corresponding world/universe. Like when I read male Hawke/Anders, I already know who they are, their personalities, their places in Thedas, and their stories. But since Dragon Age is not a dating sim, there is a plenty of room that Bioware canon does not fill in. And that's how fanfictions can come in.

And then there are some rare fanfictions that just have excellent writing.

For me, smut lost it's appeal very quickly. I noticed that if you have read few sex-scenes, you have read all, you soon notice it. It is same with yaoi, I love Haru Wo Daite Ita (omg I love Iwaki and Katou with passion) and Miyamoto Kano's stories and drawing, but that's it. I'm after quality. I have seen so awesome fanfics I almost cried when reading them, and saved them for myself, I still have my fave DAO-fics saved on my PC.  None of them has loads of smut. I'm not after smut and I don't really like it that much, I sometimes find it even boring because it is so predictable. So maybe I'm really after the illusion of pure love, lol. I'm an eternal romantic.

My favorite fic of all time must be this:

https://www.fanficti.../Well-Woven-Net

Good, well-written fanfic is rare. But so it is with everything else too. Loads of crap, and sometimes you find a jewel among it. You just have to go through too much crap to find it.

Well, I wouldn't say there's actually a theory there.More like avenues for further exploration.

I was expecting something like Alistair eyed Fenris up and down "I want your hot sexy chocolate body," and Fenris goes "Come at me templar" followed by extensive amounts of kissing and touching as well as generalized stimulation of bodies.

That actually just sounded more like a light S&M fanfic or something.

Your meaning escaped from me. Well-wowen net is S&M? Hell no! Far from it. Your writing sounds S&M? Yes? No? Could people who quote me keep in mind that I'm a simpleton.

I just didn't notice any male on male action or anything the only thing that seemed vaguely sexual was the suggestion Zevran had about wanting to tie up whoever that guy was which sounded like it was 50 shades of gray.

So.. I guess I was just saying I didn't expect it to be kind of devoid of sexual activity.

I got a massive approval from Cassandra for letting me let the empress die a bloody death at the royal ball and even more approval for letting Gaspard kill briala.. I must disagree with your assessment even as I smile at one positive trait I found for cassandra.

For all intents and purposes, they're all thugs and villains. In alll seriousness, we are practically the villains of the world, and it's the Inquisitor's own choices that either enforces this or keeps it at  bay, and just about everyone in our company is rotten to the core. So, demonizing a particular character for a basic villainy shared by all is, imo, over-reacting.

Well Cassandra hates politicing and playing the game so I don't think it's suprise that she's not very fond of Celene nor Briala and won't be sad when they are gone.

I can be a villainous Inquisitor? I wish! That's probably my top-1 gripe about DA:I, the INability to build an evil, iron-fisted inquisition, ideally one that rules by fear and that uses the orb -- instead of destroying it -- to its own ends.

(I know I said I wouldn't get into this any more but... yes, a lot of characters have dark aspects to them, e.g. Leliana as the spymistress. But at least she's up-front about it, not like certain others that try to dress everything they do in a pretty, maker-fearing, whitewashed, bigoted blanket or deride others for actually thinking first and acting second (chasing dog-tails etc.). Also, Cassandra had better got a good reason to assume that fighting through a small army of ancient elf guards takes less time, and therefore demands less victims, than simply paying respects to a statue! Maybe thinking once in a while isn't such a bad idea after all.)

If I remember correctly; they are because while your forces spots and encounter the temple elves, your first conversational encounter happens with Abelas who acknowledges, I believe, whether or not you did the trials.
