I've been working on a project for Avernostra, the small PW I admin. The server is meant to have a mix of Sword and Sorcery/Victorian Gothic sort of vibe. You know... like that vegan steak ;)

I love the RLCore Gothic Interior by Chandigar. It fits my server wonderfully. Problem I felt was that it was just too.... happy? Bright? Child-safe? The place felt way too chipper for my server, that's for sure.

So I started doodling. Waved a wet noodle over it and BAM! Suddenly the whole place starting looking more Victorian Silent Hill... which is a tad more appropriate I think. I'm still not done slapping it around. I darkened most of the textures that came with the original, and added a bit of a mahogany wood finish... but some of the textures don't like being converted to TGA, and then back to DDS. They keep getting uglier. So I'll probably end up actually changing the texture.

Overall it's becoming a fun project.

While I myself love this tileset, I agree that it could use some dirtying up. Sadly, I've had other issues with it to though and recently replaced all of the areas in my module that used it. I don't know if you have had the same issues. Occasionally, with this tileset, folks seated next to a wall or on rare occasions, door bumping when going up/down stairs has knocked PCs into the blacked out areas outside of the floor tiles. Once there, PCs can walk the blacked out sections, but are blocked from rejoining the floor again. I thought it was pretty rare at first, became an issue where I was constantly having to login as a DM to port folk back into useable parts of the tileset.

I did the same with the Gothic Interior Tileset some time ago and retextured it to appear more English Renaissance/ baroque, specific to my game world. I decided to switch it up rather than keep with its gothic/ victorian theme

Wow, that's very nice. I can definitely see where your going with that. I'm trying for a darker approach. Avernostra is an old city, and rot has set in everywhere after all. However I definitely like what I see so far.

I've never liked the tileset. And I think the textures were a big part of it. While looking at your reskin, I realize how much it can all change by changing textures. While I agree with TMP on expecting a darker view, I think your approach is interesting. This is merely a suggestion, but I find higher resolution textures improve the visuals significantly. No more smears or pixelation.

You can definitely see in my above shots where these textures were pretty low-res to begin with, and adjusting their saturation levels, darkening them, and recompressing them has made it a bit of a mess. I've already started working on brand new textures.

Jedijax - all the textures in the tileset/ picture are high quality. the "smearing" as you call it was caused by mis-adjustments when replacing the texture. i have since then corrected it but some of it still needs re alignment. My inspiration came from the French late 16th Century Style and Baroque which heavily influenced its inception. It was common during 16th and earlier Europe to have tile/ solid flooring than it was to have wooden. and thank you for the praise

TMP - i absolutely enjoy what your doing.  im still looking to redo the windows on mine and was looking at a few Gothic/ Renaissance themed window stains.

This has been finished and released after having it up for awhile on my own server. You can find it here:

awesome, thanks. i'm tempted to do something similar, but tailored for the Castle Amber (X2 module) adventure. I've never gotten around to it.
