This took me a few hours to figure out, so to save everyone else some trouble:

Windows Vista, 64 Bit. When trying to install DLC,  I got a "Mass Effect 2 does not appear to be installed" error. I did two things, and I think only the second one needs to be done.

1) I added what I thought were needed registry settings (I'll post those  if someone tells me #2 alone doesn't work.)

2) I made Steam.exe, the Mass Effect Launcher, and the Mass Effect exe (<steam dir>\\steam apps\\common\\Mass Effect 2\\ and <steam dir>\\steam apps\\common\\Mass Effect 2\\Binaries) into Run As Admin files. (Right click, properties, then Compatbility)

Installs fine for me, have not tried running yet (still installing) but it should work fine.
