See this face?

1310498335627.jpg

Its likeness graced the cover of every Mass Effect game.  Pretty much whenever I think of Shepard, I think of the default face that was on the box art.

So, do you want another Iconic default face or would you prefer that Bioware does what they did with DA:O or DA:I?

Iconic, but put the same effort into females this time (like Hawke.... in fact, LadyHawke was way cooler than male).

I prefer the DA:O/DA:I approach, I think, at least in terms of marketing and facial appearance. In terms of characterization, though? Could go either way. It's nice to mix it up, I think? XD Although for Mass Effect, having a stronger character presence in your protagonist just feels... right.

Not sure if that makes sense, but. :V

The next protagonist from the Mass Effect games should be modeled after Emily Blunt.

I doubt it will happen, but it would be really nice if they used the female MC in the marketing this time

Definitely Ionic, some people like me aren't that creative and love almost perfect looking default characters.

Well, they'll need to use some face for the marketing material.

Honestly, I don't really care that much. I will play the game multiple times anyway. Whether I do one or two of these with a default face or whether I use a custom face all the time, I don't care. That said, I liked the movie poster design of ME1's cover. If they were to go with something like that again and if they need a default face for it, then why not.

They could make the marketing default a female this time around though. Would only be fair, right?

Iconic default.

It will have more detail, and there is greater chance that the character will still look the same if he or she appears in multiple games.

They should put a helmet on the protagonist in advertisements, like they did with DAI. It will work even better with Mass Effect since there won't be playable races other than human.

Iconic Default. But they should get an actor/model scan for both male and female default protagonists this time.

Should be a woman as default for a change If they can't do both.

Or just get models for both.

For marketing, I'm not bothered, so long as they show both male and female a lot. But they should advertise the fact that you can customise the protag, since that's a big feature in Bioware's games. I bet there are plenty of people who went into ME (or DA2) not even realising you can customise your character. They probably thought Sheploo was it.

Sheploo was my second choice, personally.

I was always into customizing in RPGs.. it's just that their CC sucks. If the noses look OK from the front, then they're weird in profile. If they look good in profile. then they're too wide from the front. lol. The heads are very blocky and squared too.. It's like a lot of them have that "Donovan Hock" or "Conrad Verner" look. And the surface textures just aren't as good as Sheploo (or in other face scanned characters, like Kaidan/Jack/etc). It got better in ME3, but by then, I had given up and got attached to Sheploo. I can't speak for Femshep, but I like what I see of the ME3 models as well. It's just too little, too late.

As for the new engine, I hope they improve upon DAI. The hairstyles suck there, and it's so flexible that I need some ability to save. I restarted so many times. These iconic models end up saving me a lot of time.. and I can just jump into the game easily that way. I don't want to get burned out before I even play anything.

Yeah for marketing i'm not bothered in the slightest. Personally i've never used a default appearance in dragon age or Mass Effect and likely never will. I like being able to customise the appearance of my protagonist, so as long as that remains they can stick whatever ugly mug or muggess on the front cover like they did with ME1-3.

That face is not what comes to mind when I think of Shepard. To me, that face is just a place holder until I come in and make my own vision of male and female Shepard.

It could happen as females have been lead characters in games before. What is the real question is would they go with a non white male/female character this go about for marketing purposes?

Love the default male Shepard face!!! His is the only one I ever use...but I think it is because trying to make my own guy who is both good-looking and manly was near impossible in the CC.  The facial textures were horrific and the noses were way too weird...

For the female, I was rather put off by the default female face change in ME3.  Thankfully, they did include the original default face as the first preset, which I always used with a hairstyle/color and eye color change only .  When i tried to play femshep in ME3 with the new face, she looked...just...really weird to me. I couldn't even get to the part where she gets a gun.  I absolutely hated it. Plus, I felt like the devs were saying they never really thought about the female face at all until ME3.  I was a teeny bit insulted by that (but got over it quickly...life is too short to dwell on such crap).

So...my vote would be to have a good default male AND female face from the get-go. This is totally fine in a human-only game like ME. Just like it was fine for DA2.

BUT...I want to be able to modify the default face.  I always wanted my default male Shephard to have dark brown eyes, but it was impossible to create him in the CC.  Let me modify the default, dammit!!
