BUT...I want to be able to modify the default face.  I always wanted my default male Shephard to have dark brown eyes, but it was impossible to create him in the CC.  Let me modify the default, dammit!!

Heh.. yeah. I always wanted to modify Sheploo.

Actually, ME3 put in some changes I always wanted.. thicker beard, and kind of sharper eyebrows. It's closer to how he looked in the ME2 cinematic trailer.

The default male definitely ages throughout the trilogy...in a good way.  I love going back to ME1 and playing with him...he looks so young and innocent! :)

I think it was pretty difficult to make a good looking male Shep in the ME trilogy but if customization is improved upon then a DA:O or DA:I approach couldn't hurt. And why was it so much easier to make a good looking femshep then maleshep?

With the exception of broShep and DA2-Hawke(both), BioWare's "Default Protagonist" never look as good as their concept art, especially the female characters.

Hell, Default Marian Hawke in DAI looked like garbage compared to her original look in DA2. What's really sad is that you had go into CC to get her to look remotely like her original model from DA2.

Now IF they got better programmers for the female protagonist, I'd go for Default PC, but as it stands "Ambiguous Blank Slate" for me.

I think there is less cause for concern for that with the new engine.

DA:I's characters were far more detailed and realistic than what we saw in the Mass Effect series.

I know, right? DA2 Hawke was cool. I kind of approximated the look in DAI by giving her male Hawke's shaggy hair though.... funnily.

I think they did that on purpose across the board even with custom PC's. Mine certainly looks like she aged 5 years, and the hairstyle that I carried over all the way from the 1st game got longer as well.

Default Shep is great

I usually customize the apperance of my protags (like in DA:O or DA:I) but in this case it just sucked (I tried)
This is Shepard for me, anyone else is a fake

Leave the blank slates to Dragon Age.

Yep. Also, the iconic default is a safe choice. We can always make our own characters anyway.

I never use defaults.

But if there has to be one make it more memorable, less idealized.

Same with characterization options, more eccentricity.

(Never going to happen of course.)

I thought Sheploo was kind of memorable.. Vanderloo was a model of course, but also kind of odd and unique. Like many models actually (like Kate Moss isn't the hottest woman, but she's unique). I remember back during launch they said they picked him simply because he fit an ambiguous European mixed look.

Interesting question ;)

I personally was hoping for something closer to DA:I's default appearances for human males/females where we get like four default appearances with one...

  1. Default white dude/dude-et. Both looked nice in the CC but in-game...
  2. Default black dude/dudet-et. Male actually looked OK in-game but the girl needed a bit of work.
  3. Gaunt Hispanic guy/girl.
  4. Tough guy/girl.

See the point is that I would rather have eight well modeled "iconic" looking faces (4 Male/4 Female) that can ether function as good-templates for customisation or good-looking defaults for those who just want to jump in-game. As for advertising just jump between them for trailers/gameplay videos thus no one will be offended by the race/gender of the mug we see.

  ;)  :P  :D   :(    ^_^  <_<

Because M!Shep's options are actually a journey into the hominid fossil record.

Personally I don't give a quad about Sheploo or "iconic" appearances, but I suppose having a proper face does make for good covers, though I'm very fond of Inquisition's. I suspect that BioWare will probably not bother giving the character a proper face on the box.

Its likeness graced the cover of every Mass Effect game.  Pretty much whenever I think of Shepard, I think of the default face that was on the box art.

So, do you want another Iconic default face or would you prefer that Bioware does what they did with DA:O or DA:I?

In spite of the marketing, when I think of Shepard I think of the first custom face I ever made for him (which I've replicated on several playthroughs)

So I guess I'm good either way?

It'll be iconic, but I'd prefer somewhere inbetween like the current DA:I character. Iconic armored w/ closed helmet guy/girl on cover. If not that, then Emily Blunt.

Emily Blunt would be splendid, but I think she'd be too expensive. They could probably land Antje Traue, though.

Iconic, but put the same effort into females this time (like Hawke.... in fact, LadyHawke was way cooler than male).

This.

I'd settle with iconic female face too, and her having a facemodel and not a damn custom face. Or blank state like dai, i'd be fine either way.

I really do hope the new ME will give some focus on female protagonist and not be "lolcustomfemale".

My artistic skills are most lacking. I gave up trying to make a decent looking Shepard fairly early on, and eventually just stuck with the default. He looked much better than anything I could produce.

For people who suck with a CC as much as I do, it'd be nice if NME had several default faces you could make some small modifications with. Just like Inquisition, really.

How about the male and female PC back to back on the cover art?

There, problem solved :)

I really loved the Hale/Meer apprecation thread. They voiced Shepard. They were both awesome. Deal with it. *shades*

I never had a problem with either custom manshep or custom femshep, but that said making faces in DAI is noticeably easier, so frostbite will save the day.  :D

Not sure if easier is the right way to put it, but the tools available are more versatile and visual-based. It's got the bones for a good CC, but they'd benefit from including a wider variety of options (eye and nose shapes, hair choices, etc).
