Was looking at various blueprints, particularly for NPCs, and realized that maybe making packages might be a better way of creating, say, clerics with appropriate domains, and wizards with appropriate feats, etcetera.

But given a choice, I'd really prefer avoiding reinventing the wheel entirely if anybody else has ever made a stab at it.  Has anyone that you know of?

I altered the feat packs for my archetype character system. They are straightforward 2da files, basically a list of feats to take in order of preference.

I'm pretty sure either Dann or Lugaid mentioned editing the packages for the purpose of cleric domains as well.

I think I once heard that packages.2da is one of these packages that additional lines won't work. I might be wrong, but to avoid such a thing I tried to develop my spellcasting NPCs according to an existing package and then give them that. I had more than enough options in there, which already existed in the stock lines.

We don't like to say "played with packages" in polite society.

Packages.2da is one of the rogue 2DAs that won't work from within a HAK pack, but an edited version works fine from the override or campaign folders.

And yes - creating new packages is the best (and possibly only) way to get the most out of cleric companion domains. It also involves automatically levelling the cleric up via a once-only OnSpawn script. Without those two changes (new package and OnSpawn script), the cleric companion will list the domains Air and Animal on their character sheet, and will only get bonus spells associated with those two domains (regardless of what domains they actually have). That is unless you can find an existing package that has the domains you want in it (you still have to level them up via script though).

Yeah, the nature druid seems ok that way, but otherwise.. always wondered about that.
