I wanted to know if these are a real thing in the store before I started buying chests.

As far as anyone around here has reported, new gear comes exclusively from dragons, and the only worthwhile gear if you've been playing a while comes from perilous dragons.

"Q: Does Dragonslayer include any new items or loot?
A: Players can find new high-level dragon weapons in chests from the Multiplayer Store."
This is taken right off of Bioware's FAQ thread for the Dragonslayer DLC. So either they've falsified information, or players should be able to get dragon weapons from store bought chests.

They may exist, but guess the chance of them being in a store chest...

Some quick comparative numbers for you:
Your odds to get a Sulevin Blade before was roughly 1:12000. It is now 1:10000

Yeah...they certainly seem rare.
Like many other aspects of this patch, they may not yet work and will probably not be added retroactively.
I'd hold off...

I've mostly got all of the dragon weapons, but I don't believe they should be the best. They drop too frequently and soon everyone will have them. It would be nice for a higher tier of weapons to be available from chests only.

Times are pretty high, but the frost dragon drops pretty quickly. Comp usually includes 1 virtuoso and 1 duelist for support and mad dps. Avvar helps drop mobs on wave 4 quickly with his AOE dps. Basically, with a virtuoso, you can load up on more dps to make things faster...and he has haste.
