Let's say that we are going to get a new difficulty. How should it work? Should the mobs have more HP and more DMG? Etc.

Idea 1) Perilious + Promotion cap/ no promotions
Basically it's perilious without the promotion boost. The important factors here are level+weapons/armor/etc.

But I guess that it would make promotions useless

2) DMG/HP increase

Thing is, that's just a temporary solution.
People are simply going to have higher stats eventually.

Combinations of different factions, more beasts like Druffalo, giants etc. Environment pit-falls/traps

Arguably Ferelden Castle provides 'Perilous +' and I could see other innovation over time.

I think the only difference between Perilous and Nightmare is the nug should be replaced with a golden druffalo, instead of it running to a point the team has to run to a point before you all get pulverized. Biowar pls.

Nah - a giant gold nug that would run towards the player and explode. The druffalo would be the boss on wave 5, riding a high dragon and spitting caltrops at the player

I think damage scaling of mobs, along with a simple HP increase isn't going to end well.

The promotion system needs a loot at though, so that it is a curve with a softcap rather than flat increases.

I think quite a few players enjoy watching their characters grow with promotions/good gear and would rather have that tested against a difficulty that challenges it (thus encouraging them to grow stronger)

Diablo 3 implemented greater rifts which would dynamically scale in difficulty and that helped a lot of players test their new found powers against the highest possible level that they can reach.  Something similar would be good; though in the short term I'd like to see the multiple faction bosses to attack along with the dragon.

Imo,Perilous is rather challenging for people without gaming buddies.

There was this run I did with a couple of friends in Warframe. Basically an endless defense mission, where you have to protect an objective. We equipped all the cheese we had and did like 150 waves. Enemies used to scale with damage output, HP and above all higher damage mitigation.

In the end the map layout and damage mechanics forced a tactic down our throat that was effective but boring.

Imo, a varied set of enemy abilities, an unknown map (random), intelligent spawning, multiple vectors and enough to do for everybody is all you need. Well, it's difficult enough to make it work without a human game master. Btw, isn't there a game being developped where on player IS the game master? Lazy devs don't bother about coding AI anymore

Trollban,Banshee and two damagers were popular combo against Infested back in the days :D

I always liked endless missions. There was a mod for (endless defense) DA:Origins in Deep roads, which a enjoyed a lot.

Yes Catastrophy, that game is Fable Legends. (In the same genre as DAIMP)

There's also Sword Coast Legends if you are looking for a more classic RPG experience.

1. Enemy ai has to be made "clever" to tactically challenge a group: have enemy spellcasters which buff their allies and DISPEL your barriers. Have their archers snipe your parties "dangerous" units first like keeper / mage / archers in that order. Have the enemies brutes use uninterruptable attacks like spin to win. But please decrease the block chance of common foot soldiers that is annoying.

2. For extra fun have an algorithm in game during the dungeon crawl which first sets a base nightmare difficulty and then scales potentially upward based on how fast enemy units are dying or how many times players enter fade. So the base is more challenging than usual perilous but can get harder if the enemy faction notices they need to bring "reinforcements".

That should do the trick.

I don't know,if is it possible to implement such behavior in DAMP,but I like how Cerberus was strategic faction before zerg rush.

Centurions deploying smoke bombs, shooting from cover and icing on the cake Phantoms using Nemesis like a lure for easy kill of unwary player.

Edit

Cerberus-tough love :D

Frankly, I don't have enough promotions to make Perilous redudant, despite playing for almost seven months now. I never really have a target goal except the weekend challenges in mind, and I only play around three matches a day & still have fun that way. So I really wouldn't care yet.

That's to say I'm probably brash & unqualified when I say adjusting the health & damage upwards even more seems like a lot of work with little gain for the game.

I'd rather have any possible effort spent on new maps, characters & NEW. ENEMY. FACTIONS.

I agree with the ideas of an endless game mode.

If you add a new static difficulty, with just more HP and DMG output of enemies, then in a few months we need another difficulty mode, and in a few months after that again and so on.

At the moment it seems that with high enough promotions you can just beat anything (to the point that you don't have to think anymore).

Now capping the promotions would not be a solution in my eyes because it would take away the sense of progress.

So I'd favor a difficulty setting with endless waves of enemies and each wave they get stronger.

I do think there should be an end end end game challenge. Give us some cool auras for finishing later stages (bosses on later stages) of the horde mode. The only reason the mode exists if for xp and prestige...the prestige being kick ass glitter boots or badges or auras.

Actually, not even xp, just for prestige purposes and the hardest challenge.

Thematically a horde mode would fit very well the Deep Roads, I think.

There should be an infinite supply of Dark Spawn down there.
