Ok, so I have to ask, why is it so damn hard to find any fire essence and indeed rune crafting materials in general? You've just got to hope that the right kind of demon spawns from the rift, most of the time they won't and when they do, it usually doesn't drop enough to forge even a basic rune. Even the Black Emporium doesn't sell any essence for rune crafting!
Am I missing something and there is some other way to get essences or is rune crafting just ludicrously difficult?
Nope, you just have to keep on killing demons and keep your fingers crossed
Right next to your starting camp in the hissing wastes, there is a small dungeon (Fairel's Tomb ?) with a puzzle where you need to light 4 torches in a certain order to unlock the rest of the dungeon. Do it in the wrong order, and you will be attacked by a number of demons, including a couple of Rage Demons, which will drop both fire essences and Intense Fire Essences. Just keep doing the puzzle wrong, and Rage Demons will pop up every time so you can farm as many Fire Essences as you want. If you get hurt too much, you can just pop back upstairs and rest at your camp.
Essences other than Fire I don't know about.
Yes, be mindful that many materials are extremely rare, don't waste them.
Or you could edit your saved game with one of the tools online and use cheats - it might take a little trial and error to find the right codes and you risk corrupting your save, but it is a work arround.
