Play Now, or wait for Amulets of Power to be Restored

Hello! I have a dilemma that I'm hoping to gather some thoughts on. I've completed the story, and all I have left to do are many of the various side quests, including killing all of the dragons. The only thing stopping me from getting back into DAI is the Amulets of Power glitch, as I do want to make my party as strong as possible. Should I keep waiting in hopes BioWare fixes this glitch, and fix it soon? Or should I just play anyways, knowing I will miss out on any Amulets dropped by the dragons?

A little bit more background. When the PS4 Patch 6 was released many weeks ago, game play for me became very choppy and the audio kept cutting in and out. I deemed it unplayable, and in researching to figure out when Patch 7 will be released, I found out about the Amulet of Power glitch. So those became the 2 things I wanted fixed before jumping back in and wrapping DAI up. Now that Patch 7 finally released, my game is performing normally, so that's 1 of my 2 things fixed. Now, I'm trying to decide about the Amulets of Power and how big of a deal they can be, and I would appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks for your help!

Pretty sure Amulets of Power won't be restored. I don't think it was an accident that so many of them were removed. The game still plays fine though.

I don't really understand why they were removed. With the 8 slot limit, all they really did was give us access to extra passives.

And I thought that was the point. Why else are passives weapon-agnostic?

I've been playing* Patch 7 in Beta and to be honest I really haven't missed the AoP any. The ones you can still get are nice but with the 8-slot limit I find there comes a point (around lvl 20?) where you can't add a new skill without dropping one from your bar and/or you can't pick up extra attribute boosts without having to take useless skills first. Crafting gear with Utility slots to boost stats is far more useful at those levels anyway.

*Transparency: I play Casual.

I take a lot of those "useless skills" in order to get to passives I want. With the way stamina works, having even 8 skills on the hotbar is largely unnecessary.

It's not uncommon for me to build a 2H Warrior to level 12 or so without choosing any of the active abilities in the 2H tree. Those S&B passives are amazing.

I won't play DA:I again until that bug is fixed, nuff' said. Why it's not already fixed in patch 7 is beyond me.

And yes, it's a bug, and not something intentional. Some EA guy confirmed it at Answer HQ. I'm so pissed by it that I've signed on (or at least sent the request) the Beta program. If I'm succesful on entering, I promise to insist 24/7 that it gets freakin' fixed.

If it hasn't been fixed at this point, odds are it's not gonna be fixed.

Maxed out at level 27 eating dragons for breakfast...

The amulets aren't necessary. I just completed a Nightmare playthrough with a DW rogue without them. All that's changed is that towards the end you need to settle for getting some useful passives instead of most/all of them. To be honest, I ran out of things I actively wanted before I ran out of levels.

same here, in the end I just dumped some points into the Winter skill tree

Everyone keeps talking about whether or not the amulets are necessary. That's completely missing the point. The amulets were part of the game and Bioware didn't like that they were being exploited so rather than fix the exploit they removed the amulets. As far as myself and thousands of other people are concerned we bought those features as part of the game. the way anyone plays in single player should be entirely up to them as it affects no one else in the world. It has nothing to do with whether or not the games playable or easy without them it has to do with the principal that this is how we want to play the game and we should have that right to play it the way we want. I play PC games and PC gamers of Dragon Age Inquisition can mod the hell out of anything they want. Why shouldn't console gamers enjoy that same ability. I think we should recognize that someone at Bioware got their panties in a bunch that things were being exploited and decided they'd stick it to innocent gamersbecause they could.

Your complaint has nothing to do with this topic, in which the OP wanted to know how important the missing amulets were to a playthrough. Hence the responses about their necessity/importance.

You are the one who (probably purposefully) missed the point of the thread to further a tangential agenda.

They are not necessary, even to beat the game on Nightmare. Did a couple of playthroughs with them and a couple without, so I have a basis for comparison. I suppose that if you want to skip a lot of side content and tackle missions/areas much above your current level, you might miss them more as they compensate for skill points gained when leveling up. But if you plan on sticking to the recommended levels for quests/areas, you won't notice their absence.

Could someone kindly explain what the issue with the amulets is - what do they actually do.

I usually get one amulet of power for each companion - sometimes it seems like I get more. Not sure what they even do -

So, are the amulets gone for everyone or just the inquisitor? I'm confused.

Equip them on the accessory screen and they will be used and give that person 1 ability point to spend on their skill trees.

So, are the amulets gone for everyone or just the inquisitor? I'm confused.

Prior to Patch 5, each character could get anywhere from 2 to 5 amulets over the course of the game (some characters had more than others, for whatever reason).

After Patch 5, almost all of the amulets that could be obtained as loot (from containers or corpses) were removed from the game. This leaves every character (including the player) with 2 amulets, except Dorian and Sera, who (as far as we're currently aware) can only get 1.

Since most of the amulets left are from the war table, they can require specific choices (I don't think it's possible to get them all in a single playthrough, but most everybody should get at least one, though Dorian can very easily have access to none).

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what everyone's talking about with the amulets of power glitch.

You get them at certain quest times.  For instance, you find one for Cole in Crestwood somewhere, I think.  Each of the companions seems to get about 2, and the inquisitor gets one too, at some point.  I've completed 4 or 5 rather complete games, and they have never seemed to appear more frequently, and whenever they appear in my inventory, they work.  Am I really lucky for once?

As devSin said above, most of the previously lootable AoPs are gone - such as

I just found one for Cassandra in the Fallow Mire. My game is fully patched. Is this one supposed to be gone, by chance? Because it isn't.

I think its based more of if they could be exploited by the bottomless treasure chest issue in the game, so if it wasn't impacted by that I think it would have remained by design.

As far as the OP's question, I don't feel like the removal of them impacts the game that much at worst it removes a few bonus passives and skill points, but didn't impact how I played the game. I just wish if this was by design they would increase the ones awarded by the War Table missions to make up for the removed ones.

The only AoP that were removed are those that were in open world containers that could be exploited.

Yes they were purposely removed, no they won't be coming back.

If you play on a PC, you can make all the AoP you want.

If you are on a console, too bad, so sad. That's just another drawback to playing on that platform.

I've got ninety-nine drawbacks, but a glitch ain't one.

There are some lootable AoPs that were retained, such Cassandra @ Fallow Mire, but most were removed.
