If it really is the developers intent to utilize crafting materials for different means, I think its time for you guys to add crafting material chests. There's also the fact that, if the costs for new characters is going to be the same (or more) in material costs, than there needs to be a steady means of obtaining them. You could tier the chests similarly to regular item chests (small, medium, large), or just make them like the mixed potion chests (250G for 3 materials of a specific class type).
Bioware, it's time to add some crafting material chests for purchase

Sounds good to me if they're going to make new characters require the amount of materials that are needed like in dragonslayer.

That would be very nice. I could finally get a decent amount of cloth.

That could work.
How about adding rare crafting materials as in session rewards? Truthfully, I'd love to see some cloth over level 2 anythings.
Also, how about rewarding crafting materials after a successful dragon kill?

Seems to me they're already preparing for a mats chest. Now that mats have item cards and all.

A materials chest would be 99% more useful than current chests, seeing as that's how often you get useless items ![]()
Okay, maybe not 99%, but it's not very good.
At least with a materials chest you might get better materials than now.

Do we really need them? Not that I am against it, for sure, give us more things! But I crafted the new characters armours, and a few dragon calls and I am still full of materials, even cloth (and I don't play that much so it's not like I am some super rich player with thousands of gold).

I think you're forgetting that these forums are not representative of the overall player-base.
I have roughly enough materials to craft Isabella. There's no way I'm getting enough cloth to craft Zither anytime soon unless I don't craft Isabella, and get very lucky on my cloth drops. Of my friends who play DAI Multiplayer, I'm considered to be the "rich one".
The reality is that in most games, the majority of the playerbase is casual, but the non-casuals are much more vocal.
Now, I don't begrudge the hardcore their BiS weapons, but I don't think it's unreasonable to want to be able to experience the new content. Five cloth, ten leather, and ten metal is also quite a lot to burn just to get to fight the dragon, and many of us won't get to try Zither for a month or two even if we save up.
One possibility would be to have two versions of the dragon's call - one for perilous and one for threatening and routine. The latter would be significantly cheaper than the former. This still doesn't solve the issue with access to the characters, but it does make the dragons more accessible to the general playerbase without depriving the hardcore of exclusivity.

make the dragons call cost one of each mat would be a better idea given that your playing for a chance to get a half decent item .....
no doubt they are planning to implement a set of chests and would have released them as part of the dragon slayer update but internal arguing over making it platinum only or in game cash purchasable has held it up for a later patch roll out .... after all EA needs to monetise every tiny item it can because its profit margin just isn't high enough to be decent to the playerbase .....
