Before I begin I started a male elf bow rouge on NIGHTMARE. After I beat the prolog and did what I needed to do in Haven i went over to the Hinderlands. within the game time of 5 to 15 hours I killed the templar/mage character that I need to kill for Cassandra's "UNFINISHED BUSINESS" mission. Fast forwarding I am at game time of 27:33 and just got the mission "UNFINISHED BUSINESS" for Cassandra. I went over to the one site in the Hinderlands and couldn't find the guy I needed to kill. i wondered what happened until it just occured to me that as i said: "within the game time of 5 to 15 hours I killed the templar/mage character that I need to kill for Cassandra's "UNFINISHED BUSINESS" mission". I was like "ohhhhhhh...."

Apparently my early on kill didn't carry over to this mission. I am a tad bit peeved and wonder if there is a way to reset this mission or have this guy respawn. The reason why I am peeved is because I use to use a program called RPGmaker 95 and RPGmaker 2000 and one of the things I am familiar with is a thing called 'game switches'. Game switches can be used for simple stuff. For an example for beginners if you kill a certain guy a door would be able to be opened. In RPGmaker terms of this mission one of two things should of happened: 1: The guy should of never appeared long long ago until I obtained the quest. 2: When I killed the guy long long time ago this spot should of been automatically marked off when i did get the quest.

Again is there a way I can get this guy to respawn or am I going to leave this mission permanently incomplete over something so simple?

That happened with Dorian! I had to kill a Venatori in Valammar, but he was hiding in the area where you do that quest with Bianca (you can't return once she's gone). I killed him (with Dorian) and it never registered.

I'm not sure you could have killed him before you got the quest, since he doesn't spawn until the quest is awarded (I just cleared the mercenary fortress, and he wasn't at the pavilion before it yet, but he was when I returned after receiving the quest.)  You may have killed him without her in your active squad, and received less approval than you would have if she'd been there.

The same thing you describe just happened to me, Mlady.  I forgot about how Unfinished Business starts even though you haven't been to the caer for Lucius yet.  I lucked out and saw the red tents in the pavillion and teleported to the crossroads before they spotted us, but I was doing the exact same thing.  Thank you for the warning.  I was thinking of your comment when I was doing Dorian's quest and was able to save it because you shared your goof.

Each of the companions seems to have a fetch quest.  Hers is the templars/mages, and she's one of the few that have a limited number, with no substitutions.  With Dorian or Varric, there are so many possible Venatori to kill or lyrium deposits to smash, if you miss one, don't sweat it.  She's also a little tougher because she doesn't have any preferred baddies to make up for not checking the map when you were too close.  The area he shows up in has red templars in it when you first find it, but new, much harder ones show up for Cass.  If the quest log shows that the target in the Hinterlands is still alive, he very may be waiting for you.

I don't know what the actual numbers are for approval gains, but taking an arbitrary +15 for greatly approves, and +5 for approves, you can still make up for those 10 points in conversation later on.  I don't know what the actual approval numbers are, other than that the progression is not linear.  One greatly approves > 2 approves > 4 slightly approves.  Either GA=10, A=3, SA=1 or GA=15, A=5, SA=1.

DAI doesn't seem to be as approval dependent for quest content as the others.  You don't have to listen to Leliana go on for a half hour of codex entries to get her approval high enough to get her personal quest unlocked--this time it's Solas, but his set point is lower than hers was.  Some of his stories are pretty cool, too.

I had this happen with Unfinished Business with Gordon the Frank in the Emprise du Lion. Killed her with Cassandra and she even observed that the mage was dead and thanked me for killing her... but the quest marker never cleared. I was able to resolve the issue by traveling to another zone, returning, and killing her again. That time, the quest marker cleared and I got credit for the kill.
