In the DLC where you met the city elf's mother in Leliana's escape from the Denerim estate, she says that she'll teach her child about humans like Leliana to show her child that not all humans are bad. But the city elf can be shown to be extremely racist and bigoted to humans, depending on dialogue options. Which makes me wonder if Adaia actually ever got back to her family to teach the city elf that lesson. Either she never got the chance to teach her, or the city elf simply didn't care to hear about how humans aren't all villains and the lessons merely didn't stick. And considering how the city elf seems to revere their mother's teaching, the latter seems unlikely. So I think it's possible that the night of Leliana's escape was the same night that Adaia died, perhaps she was killed during the escape attempt after Leliana had already moved on.

For that matter, can anyone figure out the ages? Adaia talks like her child is young, but Leliana is already an adult or at least a very late teen even then. But I don't think the age gap between our warden and her is that big, because I would think that the age difference would be brought up during the romance if Leliana was (at most) several years older.

This is my personal headcanon, actually.  Fits in with the way humans treat elves generally.  I think Leliana's Song is set roughly 2-3 years before the main game, and 13-14 years of age is still young enough to be considered a child in a society that seems to treat people as adults by the time they're 16.  So let's say Leliana was maybe 18-20 at the time Leliana's Song took place.

(Apologies if this doesn't make sense.  Bronchitis = cough medicine = spring's brain is a bit loopy right now.)

I don't recall meeting the city elf's mother in Leliana's Song.

I didn't even catch that when I played it.

I can figure out the ages roughly.  Leliana spent 2 years in the cloister after arriving in Lothering.  Call it a year making her way to Ferelden and wandering around before settling down there.  The city elf's arranged marriage and the "You're a still a child" treatment of them in their unmarried state suggests that they fit into the "barely legal" category.  That could be as young as 16, but call it 18.  So the city elf is maybe 14-15 during Leliana's song.  Obviously an age difference between them and Leliana could not be mentioned onscreen because there's no way to set your warden's age even though you can give it white hair and a face like Flemeth, but Leliana is probably 3 to 4 years older than the city elf.

All in all this adds up to "Adaia died one or two years before the start of Origins" and I'm irritated that I'm not given a dialogue choice for Morrigan that isn't a lie.  The one we've got seems to belong to the Dalish Elf.  Even without Leliana's Song her death can't have been that long ago because of the training the City Elf starts with.

All that aside, Adaia probably didn't die that night because there's no dialogue option saying "Gee, Mom sure disappeared mysteriously a few years back."  They know she's dead, and they've got her boots.  That doesn't fit with her biting it in Orlais.   Now she might have died just trying to cross town to get to the alienage on her way back, but even if she made it home and told her offspring all about that great human who bailed her out of a jam in Orlais that isn't necessarily going to outweigh the several humans who cut her to pieces.

Wait, Orlais? Adaia was being held in the arl of Denerim estate in Leliana's song. As in the same place her daughter/son later turns into a river of blood that runs through the palace?

I think the city elf's possible hatred for humans can all be attributed to Vaughn.

Ah.  Brain-fart deleted.
