Am I the only one who sticks to guns and grenades? No "powers"?

Never been a big fan of spellcasting in any game, usually sticking to fundamentals.

In ME, I avoid biotics and "Thrown" spells like incinerate, cryo blast, overload, etc.

Like I usually just stick to a "Solid" single shot gun like the Mattock with a sidearm like that blood pack pistol, and some grenades for emergencies, then gun it, no pun intended.

I just overhauled my QFI into a straight soldier, abandoning Stealth for the time being (Mostly because its only good for the 4 hack objective, stalling during extraction, or acting as a damage buff, but no real use for actual stealth in this game.  Also because I was bored of stealthbuffing and wanted to play as a soldier but stay female quarian lol), and treating her like a standard Human soldier with guns and grenades (keeping sabotage because hacking is yes).

With the QFE I wind up never using fire or ice, focusing on sentry and firearms, then with Soldiers I usually forego (Or more honestly, forget about in the heat of the moment,) Adrenaline Rush and Marksmen.

I'm just more comfortable sticking to basics, and always have been.  Way back in Star Wars Battlefront I and II I would usually stick to basic soldier with rifle, pistol and grenades, ignoring the more exotic weapons and classes in favor of straight utility.  It paid off, back then I could handle any situation and never die because I had a practical class.  And while I don't top the scoreboards, I'm more comfortable with, and do better as a quarian "soldier" than when I try to focus on buffing every shot with Stealth, or trying to do tech/biotic explosions.

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but this is just what I like.  I usually bypass any biotic or tech powers, sticking more to stuff like grenades, tripmines, "standard" guns, etc.

When I remember its there, I do use adrenaline rush and marksman, but that's about it.  Not counting "armor" of course, which I always just leave on, never detonating for the damage or buff.

Variety is the reason I play the game so limiting myself by refusing to use powers/kits/weapons seems ridiculous. However, to each their own I suppose.

Sabotage is a power...

...it sounds less like you dislike powers, and more like you just prefer hitscan attacks in general.

I dunno.  I feel "Less is more".  I'm more practically diverse like this, rather than limiting myself to a certain approach by being forced to always use a power combo to attack.

I know know Sab is, but I'm making an exception there lol. Something I'll use chain neuro shock overload as well to tazer mobs.  Not sure what you mean by "hitscan attacks" though.  I mean I get the gist, but can you clarify?

I am never "forced" to use a power combo to attack some of my favorite kits are ones like the Krosol or Batsol where the powers I have at my disposal synergize with my playstyle. They are tools to give me more options in combat, and to kill enemies more quickly. I am not knocking your preferred playstyle just giving you my view on powers in general.

the sentry turret btw is also a power.
"hitscan" means that the power/projectile hits instantly, like sabotage, overload, dark channel etc.

sentry turret functions more like a grenade, tbh.  And yeah I can admit to that. I just really don't like the aesthetic of "magic spells" in Mass Effect, I suppose.

I like Soldiers too, but I still mix it up. I still use AD rush a lot (it's not like single player, but still), use concussive, and mix it up with melee often. Not my favorite for "plain" multiplayer classes though. I like human adept more.

Fair enough. I play quarians who have crappy loadouts normally, so I usually default to this "basic" playstyle with them rather than try to mess with tech bursts.  Only other characters I really use are the guy with the shield (I use the actual shield instead of going for tech bursts with the flame and ice), N7 Destroyer (I usually forego grenades to just focus on bullet and missile spam.), and Geth Juggernaut (Dat tanking).

I can't do biotics at all.

Hmmm...to each his own, I normally play the phoenix vanguard all day, but when i do play with kits like soldiers or whatev, i still like to use the grenades. i like to take advantage of everything each kit has to offer. Powers can compliment each kit nicely.

I usually don't bother with grenades because I can never get enough ammo to really justify them.  I don't know how people do those grenade spam builds...it seems like ammo crates never refill enough for me.

I did this in the single player, and it's only from the multiplayer that I learnt how much I gimped myself by doing so.

I'd rather stop playing the game than turn everything into a weapon platform.

I just unlocked the two Male Arc Brothers in one purchase on my PS3 alt account. And it's been mostly Incinerate and 3 total (because I only have Warfighter lvl.1) Arc Nades for me instead of shooting my no manifest weapons. At least my Clip Packs went from 2 to 4 to help out. And have been lucky to only land on two nades per box maps.

MQE and other nade kits make perfect weapon platforms because they don't really have to worry about cooldown either since they can instant combo. So again very important while starting a new manifest because lvl.1 weapons weight a ton. ie. Just unlocked the Lancer 1 too. The so called light weight AR for power classes. Lightweight my butt at lvl.1.

But there still is no need to skip all cooldown powers on Nade kits. ie. I still spec into Carnage on Spitfire KroSol because it's a detonator to my Nades, which is perfect for crowd control for when I need it.

Really not that logical because some of the grenades and guns make even less sense than the powers do. I mean, firing an incendiary rocket from an omni tool seems more feasable than a grenade that telekinetically levitates/ causes dark matter explosions, or a gun that can generate infinite metal harpoons/ spikes/ grenades out of thin air as long as you keep putting magic heat sinks in it.

I do prefer gun and grenade platforms, and usually put Claymoar or other heavy weapons on things that are "supposed" to be "casters" (lol this isn't an MMORPG), but ignoring Marksman or TC is pretty extreme, and I don't know how you could possibly be doing worse by using them.
