Probably.
I'd be bored out of mind if I played every kit as a soilder.
Sounds like a deliberate attempt to make the game less diverse/fun than it is. My only question is... why? ![]()

Never been a big fan of spellcasting in any game, usually sticking to fundamentals.
In ME, I avoid biotics and "Thrown" spells like incinerate, cryo blast, overload, etc.
Like I usually just stick to a "Solid" single shot gun like the Mattock with a sidearm like that blood pack pistol, and some grenades for emergencies, then gun it, no pun intended.
I just overhauled my QFI into a straight soldier, abandoning Stealth for the time being (Mostly because its only good for the 4 hack objective, stalling during extraction, or acting as a damage buff, but no real use for actual stealth in this game. Also because I was bored of stealthbuffing and wanted to play as a soldier but stay female quarian lol), and treating her like a standard Human soldier with guns and grenades (keeping sabotage because hacking is yes).
With the QFE I wind up never using fire or ice, focusing on sentry and firearms, then with Soldiers I usually forego (Or more honestly, forget about in the heat of the moment,) Adrenaline Rush and Marksmen.
I'm just more comfortable sticking to basics, and always have been. Way back in Star Wars Battlefront I and II I would usually stick to basic soldier with rifle, pistol and grenades, ignoring the more exotic weapons and classes in favor of straight utility. It paid off, back then I could handle any situation and never die because I had a practical class. And while I don't top the scoreboards, I'm more comfortable with, and do better as a quarian "soldier" than when I try to focus on buffing every shot with Stealth, or trying to do tech/biotic explosions.
I know I'm probably in the minority here, but this is just what I like. I usually bypass any biotic or tech powers, sticking more to stuff like grenades, tripmines, "standard" guns, etc.
When I remember its there, I do use adrenaline rush and marksman, but that's about it. Not counting "armor" of course, which I always just leave on, never detonating for the damage or buff.
Yes you probably are the only one to do this, if you find another, you should bang 10/10 ok? ![]()

Use protection, not for your sake but for ours.
LOL, I am NOT banging, OP is
because I'm either back on the Citadel or Omega getting smashed
I generally prefer kits who rely on guns more than on powers.

No, he's not wrong. Many pugs start preferring weapons and weapon platforms at first. Just like them stats BioWare showed that most play the ME games with Soldier class.
I know when I started, I preferred weapons over powers too. But now starting a new account and having super weak weapons, on top of craving more variety, I've never played power focus as much as I do now. Even with 3 nades total. But for those who just start out, extra variety is not needed since you just started this game and anything is super exciting from the get go.
FIRE GREATER THAN GUNS!!
...but i love bioitics the most.

1. And you know that how exactly? Did you interview at least a thousand players? Was there a study? Statistics provided by BioWare?
2. Yeah, that was singleplayer though.

I don't think it's statistically proven but I could see the casual fan being from a more weapon focused gaming background. That's JMO though.

Exactly.

Then again you could argue that powers are much better at the start because the choice of guns will be very limited or crappy.
You've got it all wrong. Pugs prefer melee at the start, which is why there are so many puggernauts, because it's the best melee kit.
Sounds like a deliberate attempt to make the game less diverse/fun than it is. My only question is... why?
Other way around. I do it this way for more variety. I don't like funneling my strategies down to "use this weapon to proc this combo" or "have to get this power off to proc this combo before shooting".
Like I'm just so BORED of spamming stealth as a damage buff, so I'm dropping it entirely to respec to a base gun and grenade combo quarian. I keep Sab, but now I'm having way more fun because my character is more well rounded.
To me biotics aren't more "diverse" or anything, just "obstructive". I don't need the enemy to float or fling around, I just need to shoot them, or do knockdown.

Personally, like I said, I'm just not a fan of "offensive" magic in general, no matter the game. In Star Wars, I don't like the Force/jedi/sith nonsense, instead being more interested in the tech and military, like battlefront, rogue squadron, and republic commando. In ME, I'm not a fan of the force, er, sorry, "biotics", either. Preferring solid tech and weaponry.
Also, I like sticking to basic loadouts so I can adapt to situations better. WIth a few exceptions. like in Campaign, I just load Shepard down with the best of all 5 weapon slots, because what the hell do I I need power recharge speed for, I'm a soldier lol.
I tried Biotic shepard in ME1 and ME2. HAAAATED it. Going Engineer next for femshep.
Honestly I seriously despise that they actually added in "Fireball" and "ice bolt" spells into Mass Effect. They shoulda actually made them more...tech-y. The flamethrower is perfect, and EDI's cryo blast is great. Wish the FQE had those two instead of the "Magic spell" version so I could walk around with a reegar carbine to be able to have a "thrower" of all three elements! That woulda been awesome.
(Still woulda rather the FQE be able to summon all three drones like in campaign, though. Combat, Turret, and Defense.)
The only character I can think of that I've consciously done this with is the Cabal Vanguard. I tried several times to play her the way you're 'supposed' to play her, but I was absolutely awful. It wasn't until I started skipping Poison Strike entirely and built her like a straight-forward soldier that I started doing well with her. I actually like the character now.
Most other characters, however, I generally use their powers. There are a few that I do skip out on entirely, but it's only because I either don't like the power or I find it useless.

Yeah. I generally keep my "favorite" classes (female quarians, juggernaut, destroyer, etc) as straight soldier types (tank in jugs case), but like, I always keep human engineer as a straight combat drone & Chain Neural Shock Overload so I can hide behind cover and just stun and distract all the enemies for my team if I feel like playing a "proper" engineer.
There's always that one skill that I always pass on with each class though.

... you may as well just use the Turian Saboteur.
... you may as well just use the Turian Saboteur.
Except I don't want to be a Turian. i want to be a Quarian.
Also I don't have TS unlocked.
Yes OP. because why would we want to use such a thing as powers especially when they are there in the 1st place.
