Are the Asari a glimpse into the future of humanity? Are we the race of all female space aliens that Bioware had originally envisioned in the Mass Effect series? To be honest I am not up on my biology but I always thought that it was the sperm that decides the gender of the child?

Well technically we would still be able to mix the genepool if the cells are taken from a separate donor..... from what I understand

Yes but all fetus' start as females. When the right hormones are released the ovaries turn into testicles etc.

 

This of course doesn't even go into what happens when the fetus is immune to those hormones. Which leads to XY females (

Androgen insensitivity syndrome) and XX males (not transgender).

Anyway, the women have run into some problems with their reproduction technology. They need 'fresh' input. So after much discussion, instead of just killing this threat immediately, they harvest his testicles and then kill him.
