The 390x is gonna be faster and have more memory than even a titan X and the titan X is still like 1500 bucks. They're saying that a 390 will be very affordable- Sub $500. But the 390x is looking to both be considerably cheaper than nvidias top GPU and more powerful. I'm guessing the 390x will be priced around 750-900 bucks when released.

Looks like Nvidia needs to stop focusing on derpy tablets and "steaming" machines and actually make a powerful and affordable tier 1 GPU.

*The salt is still real with GTX 970 owners. With their whopping 3.5 GB vram...... GG*

I was an nvidia guy for the 500 and 600 series (Had 2 560 ti EVGA FTW's and latter 2 GTX 670s) But last summer I upgraded to 2 R9 280x toxics in crossfire. And they are the best cards I've ever owned. So..... I'm probably off the nvidia bandwagon for a while, lol. And the GTX 970 debacle, lack of a ti varriant for the 900 series, and the fact that the 960 is less powerful than the 760 is.... Concerning. So.....  Yeah.

Thoughts?

Are you excited about the beast that will be AMD's Fiji XT cards?

I found a good deal for GTX760 and got it. Considering its price it's much better than 960.

I'll keep this GPU for 3 years then most likely get a (MSI or Sapphire) R9 290, 290x or series 300.

ehm nope? for all i know the R9 390X will have 8GB which is less than 12 (ignoring the fact that most people dont even need 6GB).
also the Titan X is a prestige-card like the first titans and its price wont drop soon. the real rival of the R9 390X is the upcoming 980ti. tests will show which one is faster, but i wouldnt be surprised if its the AMD.

well, i bought a GTX970 last october and i still dont regret it.

Yeah, no. According to Steam's hardware surveys the vast majority of gamers run at 1080p. You don't need anything more than a 970 to run 1080p games at the present time, and you'll save over $180 over Another Massive Disappointment's crards.

Haha.

I just bought an eVGA GTX 970 for $295. It's going into my portable mini-ITX box for LAN parties.

my main issue with radeons is the heat. you literally slap as many coolers and radiators on damn thing as you possibly can.

however - i consider amd products superior to nvidia stuff.

Are AMD's drivers still woefully bad? I gave up on their CPU's because they're kinda trash.

Yeah, the reference R9 2xx series cards were all very hot but they were designed for it. Again, I went for sapphire's toxic editions, as sapphire is widely regarded as making the best AMD card. Although, the MSI Lightening 290x is pretty impressive.

Well, it's about time that AMD released something that can compete with top end Nvidia cards.

First off, steam sucks. Must be said. Also, I game at 1080p on a Benq 140hz, but I value tons of frames because I'm a comp FPS guy on PC. So I prefer my steady 140-120 frames. I think 1080p is fine too be honest. I mean, I cranked up Crysis 3 on max settings at 1080p and it was absolutely stunning and still played well above 60 frames even with lots of enemy AI and particle effects.

Resolution does not always mean a better looking image quality.

I really like my Benq 1080p monitor and performance at 1080p.

Cool, look forward to seeing it thoroughly put through the paces on a tech site. I upgraded my computer last holiday season so it's good for everything coming out this and next year, but I always keep my options open for future upgrades.

4K monitor is a waste of resources.

I would be curious to know just how far below $500 the regular 390 would be though, because $500 is not what I call affordable to the average PC gamer.

and anybody interested in a top end rig is going to be looking at the 390x, which I imagine most of us will be okay with the higher price if we're going all out on a PC.

Yeah, I think you're correct pretty much. Although 4K is pretty nice to view. I hooked my PC up to my 4K tv and played some Battlefield 4 it was pretty nice too look at but I was only averaging 70ish frames on medium, lol, when you're used to FPS on PC playing at 120+ FPS, anything less is... Just kinda odd. Which isn't the case when I play HALO MCC on Xb1... I don't mind the 60fps cap. It's weird I guess. But yeah. 4K is awesome but it's very expensive.

Contemplating upgrading my 3GB 780 Ti Superclocked gpu to a 980 Ti 6GB when it hits stores. I can justify it being an early birthday present, and as I don't go beyond 1080p for my gaming, it should serve me quite well.

Steam doesn't suck.

The enthusiast market is the vast minority, not majority.

Congratulations?

Thanks.

Honestly, despite the whole 3.5GB VRAM, 1.75MB L2 cache, and 56 ROP false advertisement, GTX 970's real world performance is still quite good.

It's definitely worth its price tag, especially if you just want to build a mid-tier gaming system without a 4K resolution.

I also have a 780 Ti in my main gaming system. I don't think I'll upgrade it until there's something that can offer 50% more performance without the ridiculous four-figure price tag.

That was my intention as well. Either I'd stick with this until I absolutely have to upgrade every other part to keep up with the demands of pc gaming - which would then be my new build altogether, which I hope won't happen for a good few years, or just upgrade my GPU every other year, seeing as the 700 series is becoming the recommended gpu.

I'll see how things go performance wise like yourself, then convey with my preferred tech guy. Heck he might even suggest just slapping in another Superclocked 780 ti and experience the Dual-gpu life!

I'm not even gonna bother trying to figure out what you meant by battleship, but yeah, I have an HTPC with a GTX 960 (Dead or Alive 5 box) in the family room, a gaming system with a 780 Ti, and a LAN party box that I'm currently building with a GTX 970, which I plan on leaving at my friend's place most of the time.

It's funny because I actually hate building and working on computers. I just can't live without them.

On top of that, I also have three Lenovo Thinkpads that I got from work and a Dell Venue 11 Pro which is my main portable tablet/laptop for travel.

I'm pretty happy with my R9 290. Don't think I'll be switching for a while yet.

As for the red/green shitfight, eh. They both are good in some ways, crappy in others. Product line/architecture and price is more important than branding.
