Back to DA2, though. Truth is, had the game not been rushed, and given more time for polish, I think people would have been singing a bit of a different tune. The story was solid, and the characters were good. Just needed more time and a bit more love.

I really doubt it.  I know for many like myself who loved DA:O,  having the freedom of choice in creating ones own character as we did with the Warden was a huge factor in our enjoyment of the game and then having that reduced to a Mass Effect-esque focus on a pre-made character felt like a giant step backward.

Having more time for polish would definitely have done DA2 good, no doubt about it, but even so, I really don't think I'd be any more interested playing through DA2 a second time even if it had been given more development time for extra polish.

I'm not saying this is you, Shadeling, but a lot of people who were complaining about just that also went and sang how wonderful that other fantasy game was. The one where you can't customize at all.

I thought having Hawke and having his/her story and family ties were nice, it made the game feel more personal to me not less. But I always got the feeling from the DA team was that there was never going to be the same character twice, not just in changing protagonists but in the way they come to be. DA2 required a narrower focus than DAO, which was an introduction to the world. We're zooming back out again with DAI.We'll just have to wait and see how it works out.

I honestly saw DAO as the introduction to the world of Thedas and its races, DA2 was the other person's POV (survivor of the Blight who was not chosen) and the one who unlocked Cory so that DAI could wind up everything, including the novels. After playing both DAO and DA2 in order and then DAI, all the pieces seem to finally fit.

This may or may not be part one of the interview? OP has vanished so... I don't know... but it seems to cover some of the topics OP listed...

That interview IS our part 1.

Parts 2 3 4 are taking longer than we antcipated. Unfortunately getting them set from on air is proving difficult.

Please enjoy what we have so far.

Then they should have cut the fetch quests that do nothing for the overall story.

The alternative possibility though, is that the sidequests were added to make up for the amount of story that had to be cut.

I mean look how vast those maps are compared to what they are used for. That will have taken years to build, in readiness for whatever story is told using them. But if the Story is pared back you've got to find ways to use them.

Next game being current gen only would help also

Yes. Can't help but think this millstone around the product's neck cost a lot more development time, and caused far more compromises, than a dozen other things people moan about.
