It's fun, but certainly not as much as the Mass Effect multiplayer was.
It will be, in a few months from now. MEMP got the exact same reaction in almost every regard, in its initial state back then. The "individual" mistake they made with DAMP is to not touch it effectively until a few weeks ago, so the new content was an almost twice as long wait.
DAMP now, with the Dragonslayer patch and current state of balancing, has gotten really good. Lots of room for improvement still, but it's getting better by the week, and the devs were never more active and cooperative. The way I see it, it's really just started after BW had taken some time to figure things out for themselves immediately after release.
I wondered if fans of DA tended to fall more on the SP end of things as opposed to MP.
If the MP was better, do you think more fans would play it? I ask because I wonder if spending time and resources in MP is a good investment. Mass Effect is for me more of an action/adventure/almost shooter type game, so MP kind of fits better in my mind... although I still just play ME as a SP.
Absolutely not, sadly. I would love that to happen, but people made up their minds as a matter of principle.
I for one appreciate both modes for different things. If you come to the MP expecting it to be just as the SP, except your party consists of real people, you will be disappointed. It has a similar but still unique way it works, much as you can't play MEMP just like the SP. It also adds things to the SP, too. Not only balancing in general, but anyone who has tried out playing as Isabela, Virtuoso or Skywatcher, can see that they're doing the same thing as the MEMP-team did by adding unique and new combat mechanics to the game -which could be picked up on in future SP DLC. You can call the banter repetetive, but in my opinion many of the MP agents are more interesting both gameplaywise and characteristically than some companions of the series. Good old Sheryl Chee working her magic right there.
It would be a lie that the MP developement does not take away anything from SP focus, but that is something people will hopefully learn to live with.
Simply because quite a few people including myself would prefer it to exist, and the notion that a franchise is set in stone with the exact fashion that the first installment was, is as presumptuous as it is unfair.
Being able to play with people I met for our love of BioWare games, is something I'll gladly trade in a few curtain & window options in the Skyhold for.
