Exactly. Without people covering for you, even prenerf archer was garbage. That was his balancing factor- weak defensively, strong offensively. Now he's just as squishy, but with an enormous DPS drop. Without your 1337 promotions, you can't pug perilous with him anymore.

not my fault you go in without a balanced team. 

 

get a keeper, lego, lute player, barrier ele.

play as a team. 

 

also from what ive experienced gear is much more important than promotions.

Claiming a class is OP because you have a team structure that specifically plays to his strengths, which is not representative of the population as a whole, IS NOT an accurate assessment.

Yes you can, you just need to use some tricks besides spamming longshot to pull your weight.  You have tons of cooldown reduction, stamina generation, and several big damage increasing passives.  You have hard hitting abilities in spike trap, leaping shot (and rolling draw with a griffon bow), explosive shot against groups, full draw, mark of death, and longshot as a detonator.  You have two sleep abilities and mercy killing.

 

The archer is more than just long shot.

i didnt say he was better. i said he was easier to play.

 

i said stay in the back. and gear is the most important thing in this game.

There is no alternative to Longshot, it is an unique and OP skill, not for the damage, but for the follow up hit it gives to everything else behind your target, most of the time in a insane way (curve).

 

Do you know that having that skill and Opportunity Knocks its a Blasphemy in all senses? specially if you play with ppl with high cunning. The CIA should be investigating those player with Longshot by now.

The long distance bonus was apparently a tooltip mistake and it was actually doing 500% total at long range where as now it's supposed to be doing 400% (so a 20% nerf).  In practice though I'm finding that it's only doing 250% total at long range instead of 400%. I think other people are having similar results because they're noticing that explosive shot (300%-400% total damage depending on the upgrade) is consistently doing more damage.

 

The minimum range for the bonus damage was also increased to 15m.

I have played pre-nerf archer even without HoK rings. It was very nervous but doable -- in PUGs of course. And NOT in the Ferelden Castle. But no, I'm not whining, I'm totally happy with this nerf... I'm not crying, it's just a wind...

 

Nah, screw it, you gave me my 100% crit chance, now rest in peace, poor squishy boy!

I still don't see how any of that breaks the character.

 

Longshot pre buff was just gross. It's normal now. It has low stamina cost, neglible cooldown, it's a detonator AND it hits multiple targets. Needless to say all of that even works the best from as far away as possible. It seems a little greedy to say a sheer damage nerf on a skill that still hits for 2,5k crits on multiple targets with virtually non-existent prerequisites was overly harsh. Just because you can't evaporate legions of mooks without putting down your coffee anymore doesn't mean the Archer is useless, or even weak.

 

That's like saying the Elementalist doesn't work anymore as soon as the Fade Cloak bug is fixed.

The damage decrease for longshot does seem to be pretty broken, 500% down to 400% I'm seeing my longshots that used to do 3.5k doing 2k tops, with a more powerful bow, crit damage ring and LS ring, whereas previously I was just using the LS ring and punched. That's much more than just a 100% damage reduction surely? I don't know much about how they calculate the damage but it doesn't seem right.

 

Happy with the other buffs, just think this was a little to much. LS was a bit OP before but all that's been done to combat it is to make it crap and give us another OP skill in return (explosive shot). Once they find the right balance to make all of the skills more usable hopefully the majority will move away from using the same vanilla builds that get people crying nerf.

Long shot was a cornerstone talent but its usefulness decreased once you could not use corridor camping in wave 5. Was still great in the map before that but wave 5 is still the most important area to be effective and win. Explosive shot was always useful imo because it staggers targets slightly which were coming dangerously close to you. I was always a fan of it preferring to take it and leaping shot instead of any defensive abilities - I know the ultimate glass cannon build. And try explosive shot with a keeper setting up with static cage ;). Followed by leaping shot. Flanking builds might actually become really the way to go now with this character.
