dark souls is too ez. i saw that video of the 3 year old
But 12 yr old nephew was soloing perilous with AW tho, in twenty minutes after I taught him secrets of the arcane, well there wasn't much to it...

I suppose if AW players were better at fighting with the party and not running ahead of them and soloing everything, they wouldn't have got the nerf.
Unfortunately you guys decided to play it that way and that's why it got nerfed.
Looking forward to AW becoming more of support class with all his crowd control and weakening abilities.
Arcane Warrior. Read that together with me; Arcane Warrior. What does that class title imply? Someone who doesn't have to be in a support role. Not only that, but the skill tree and way the AW plays supports the notion that he is not a character that is meant to pigeon-holed into a particular play style. Also, I stick with my group, even as an AW, so don't fling the "selfish e-peen glory hog" spiel my way.
People sure seem to like forcing people into a certain play style.
"Did you see that virtuoso? He didn't spam barrier the whole session. What a waste of a slot, all he need to do is keep barrier up, what is this heal on hit, and defense song nonsense? I wanted to try out my dd Keeper for crying out loud."

Then they should change his name too... In origins AW was a badass spellcasting mage-tank who could take hits (or rather avoid them) like no other. If he needs to be changed somehow, I say make him more of a tank with spirit blade by reducing damage while maintaining survivability and increasing threat generation.
What I would like to see is him wielding sword & shield or a two-hander while casting spells.

Probably should have had less damage output, especially with regards to ranged AOE damage, or even debuff. Probably shouldn't have had any rift mage skills.
In DAO the attempt was made to limit the character with the penalties for combat magic (50% fatigue), you had worse attack rating (which was for hit chance) compared to warrior or rogue unless you had very high magic, or used weapons with + attack, and a lot of the good damage spells had to be cast with sword / dagger sheathed. Of course for the last bit you could bind weapon switch to a mouse and switch to a staff, cast, and switch back rapidly. And the penalties didn't matter as much by late game. Most classes and specs were very good by mid late game though, like unhittable dex pumped dagger rogue.
Anyway if they wanted to approximate that character, the barrier gen skill would probably have needed to be an activated power rather than a passive.
The virtuoso doesn't have spirit blades just a banjo...People sure seem to like forcing people into a certain play style.

Im just laughing at Bioware because its like their developers never played arcane warrior and looked at some stats of the most used AW skill, and then said well just reduce this skill and this will make AW less powerful. Im not asking for him to be nerfed, I like to play him so scuse me while i go solo perilous dragons
Barrier in general should be nerfed. The amount of damage it absorbs is ridiculous. 4 people stacking up on a caster while using los is complex teamwork. Its by far the most op ability in the game and bard didn't help anything.
I 've grown a better appreciation for the AW since running so many Ferelden castle maps on perilous.
The ones that run ahead and ignore everyone use to bug me. Not so much anymore.
I've seen A LOT of really bad AW's since the nerf/my recent perilous runs, BUT I've seen a few really good ones too. The good ones can run ahead and solo and stay alive, and that is fine. The ones that try to run ahead and just die, ...well what can you do.
My point being, a good AW in your group is your friend, he'll likely still be the last man standing even after the nerf.
I have someone on my friends list that plays the AW like a beast, but I've seen enough bad ones to know the class doesn't need to be nerfed any more than it already is.
The virtuoso doesn't have spirit blades just a banjo...
Obviously...
For context, I was replying to the post above. #27
