Assuming that the leaks are true it's undeniable that the Geth and Quarians are two of the more popular factions amongst fans of the series indicated no less by their longstanding popularity in multiplayer so it seems like a silly question to ask but in your honest opinion will we ever see either of these races again?

Given that both can be either exclusively alive or dead or at peace or even killed off in a ending (in the case of the Geth) will either or both be given the Telltale treatment and be forever written out of the series by being confined to the Milky Way galaxy (out of sight, out of mind)? Of course i'd like to see them again as they are both synonymous with Mass Effect but if BioWare are to remain true to player choice even going so far to move the series to another galaxy not to undermine player choice wouldn't either reappearing contradict and undermine the very point of changing the setting in the first-place?

The Krogan might be back yes but I don't think you can argue that the 3 are equivalent given there will be Krogan survivors for 1000+ years regardless of whether or not you cured the genophage. Short of some very contrived b.s. explanation like 'the surviving Quarians rebuilt them', have the Geth and possibly even the Quarians been effectively written out of the series?

I rather see new species.

They can implement Quarians. Ships like Idenna, sent to find a new homeworld. Have one such a ship be sucked in a wormhole to Andromeda and there you have it - a Quarian colony.

I'd rather not see the Geth again.

They're not going to throw that big of a building block of the franchise.

So yes, you can safely bet on some BS explanation or another of how the geth survived after all.

I sure hope they find a way. The endings of ME3 were made too dramatic with all those annihilations left and right. Endgame variables should involve small scale stuff, like local stuff, or even better, only involve the team, while leaving global/galaxy changing events the same for all playthroughs. In the long term, it's simply easier to develop an optional or replacement squadmate than solving entire species which may or may not be annihilated.

On a mission like that a Quarian lifeboat would be very usefull asset, wouldn't it?

Turians, Salarians and Krogans are the three races I most want to see. I wouldn't miss the others.

I doubt we are going to have a lot of interaction with the Geth, Krogan, and Quarian because all three species had a major plot point in Mass Effect 3 and instead of having a massive amount of work based on what happens I think we would encounter smaller groups that can fit either outcome of the past games.

I'd rather not see the Geth again.

Why?

Why?

  • I don't see anything new they can bring to the table. AI becoming human-like, questions of synthetic sentiences etc. are thoroughly explored in ME3 with EDI and Legion.
  • Their motivations changed quite readily between the games. "Geth build their own future. A megastructure. When completed we will all upload to it. All memories will be shared, all perspectives will be unified" -> "Our upgrades. With the Old Machine dead, we could upload them to all geth without sacrificing their independence. Each geth unit would be a true intelligence. We would be alive, and we could help you." After all this, who are the real geth? The ones in ME2 or the ones in ME3?
  • I don't see ways of how they can end up in Andromeda without some ass pulls.
  • I'd prefer the whole organic vs synthetic theme be left in the past, or at least only briefly touched upon which won't be the case with sizeable presence of the geth.

I acknowledge that it's all subjective, players who like the geth would like to see them in ME:Next. I don't and I'd rather not see them at all. Especially since I destroyed them all both on Rannoch and with Destroy ending.

The only cool thing, I could imagine is if they were there without mobile platforms. Imagine you (the PC) had a geth or another AI in your hardsuit. There is some potential there.

It reminds me of Ghosts in Destiny which was, well, boring :D And I didn't even play the game, only watched a playthrough on YouTube.

Didn't play Destiny either. The geth thing was just a random thought of mine, too. I am not sure if it would actually be a good idea. Would depend on the execution, I guess.

I also had this idea before and I really like it. It would be awesome to have an A.I. in our armor helping us in battle and with exploration.

I'm with Joker here. My last ship (suit) got on just fine without an AI telling me 'the airlock is ajar' :P

Quarians, perhaps. They're easy enough to write around. Wouldn't bet on the geth, though.

Yeah, I don't need no bitching betty telling me that I'm getting hit or I'm close to my objective.

Agree with this, it's a reasonable assumption that there would be enough quarians scattered around the galaxy who didn't make their way to Rannoch for the species to survive even if most of them were killed. It would need quite a time gap though to make them a common sight again. Bringing the geth back if they were destroyed (particularly in the ending, less so at Rannoch) would look rather more contrived. Again with quite a gap you could perhaps have a common AI around and hint that the geth were part of that if they survived without being conclusive, but they wouldn't be the geth.

I hope so. I doubt the races as a whole would ever play a big role again, but there would be room for individuals. Especially with the quarians. Even if you picked to side with the geth and most quarians died above Rannoch, I imagine a few ships might have made it out. If not, there are still exiles and quarians on their Pilgrimage. They could play a role as invidual NPCs and/or crew members, though the species may become a dying race, I suppose.

As for the geth... Legion is the only unit outside geth space. Unless some managed to escape on Rannoch (with rapidly reducing intelligence), I doubt they survived.  I could see some quarians (like Xen) thinking they could try again with geth and 'avoid the mistakes' of the past. In any case, the geth are still alive if Shep sided with them and made peace, and then went on to pick Control or Synthesis. I imagine that they would be content to stay beyond the Veil (especially if you sided with them, since they wouldn't need to accomodate quarians living on Rannoch again). But a few geth could be seen appearing as NPCs for whatever reason.

So yeah, I can see quarian NPCs re-appearing regardless of Shep's choices, and geth NPCs reappearing depending on Shep's choices.

Well, yes. I hated the  organic vs. synthetic  thing myself, which in my extreme pretension I thought uninspired and borderline childish.

Still, I like robots and I'd still like to have them around.

In fact, I wish my own character could display the conversational and behavioral mannerisms of a robot.

If they want to, they can easily write their way around the issue of any potential extinctions regardless of player choices depending on the setting. They already did it within their own trilogy with the Rachni. All geth or all quarians in existence being killed off in a single battle at a single location was a really stupid premise as is.

Of course, if the ark theory nonsense rumour isn't just that, hypothetically I'd expect them to run from the issue like they have with the endings and ignore the two with perhaps codex entries or a few token NPCs. Either both will appear or neither will, due to their incessant desire to not canonize an ending.

If they get rid of the roles of either or both while still including the Council Races and krogan, it will probably p!ss a lot of people off. Both have a sizeable fanbase on par with or greater than those species.
